5 horses fatally shot, 3 others wounded in Virginia; juvenile facing animal cruelty charges

A juvenile in central Virginia is facing felony charges after authorities say five horses were shot and killed.

The Appomattox County Sheriff's Office said it was notified by animal control officials Tuesday of multiple horses that were shot in the town of Spout Spring, about 50 miles south of Charlottesville.

Responding authorities said five of the horses were found fatally shot and another three horses were wounded. Veterinary care was summoned to treat the wounded horses, as investigators worked to determine who was behind the shooting.

On Wednesday, Appomattox County sheriffs "were able to develop information" that led to a juvenile being charged for the offense of the wounded horses.
