In March 2018, Paris Hilton’s boyfriend Chris Zylka proposed to her atop a mountain in Aspen, Colorado — on National Proposal Day, no less.
Hilton and Zylka’s relationship dates all the way back to 2010 when the two attended an Oscar party, after which they “flirted for years and years” before finally making their relationship official in February 2017.
While Hilton’s dating history is rather extensive, but it seems actor Zylka is the first man she’s been 100 percent sure about. “For the first time, it feels so right. He’s perfect for me. He’s my best friend, so loyal, kind, caring and sweet,” she told Galore. “He has such a big heart, I trust him with my life and know he would never hurt me. I’m so proud to let the world know he’s mine and I’m his.”
The Simple Life star’s life is anything but, of course, and every relationship has its, well, questionable facets.
1. Both Hilton and Zylka have been engaged before
Remember that time Hilton was engaged to another Paris? That was Paris Latsis, a Greek socialite Hilton was engaged to back in the early 2000s. Their relationship, however, did not work out, and Hilton broke off the engagement in 2005, fearful that it wasn’t the right decision. “She feels that she’s young and she wants to make sure it’s right,” actress Kyle Richards, Hilton’s aunt, told People at the time. “She didn’t want to make a mistake with the whole world watching.”
Zylka also went through a broke engagement to model Hanna Beth, though his wasn’t quite as drama-free. Zylka popped the question to Beth in April 2014, but the two broke it off almost a year later after getting into a nasty Twitter feud after he seemingly alleged Beth cheated on him.
2. Zylka’s past relationships haven’t ended well
Zylka’s rant against Beth wasn’t the only time he’s gone after his exes on social media. After going through a breakup with Pretty Little Liars actress Lucy Hale in 2012, Zylka allegedly told another Twitter user that they broke up because Hale "decided she was too good" for him.
Thought Zylka eventually apologized to Hale on Twitter, let’s just hope Hilton never has to see this side of him.
3. Hilton wants three weddings
Yes, you read that correctly — three weddings. To the same person. I guess if you’re an heiress you can do whatever you want, right? And honestly, is it really that surprising?
So, why would a person need three weddings? According to Hilton, it just makes sense. “For my 21st birthday I had five parties,” she said in a 2018 Golden Globes interview. “So maybe for the wedding I’ll have a European one, an American one, one for everyone around the world.”
4. Hilton lost her $2 million engagement ring
If there aren’t any more diamonds left in the world, that’s because they’re all on Hilton’s ring finger. Zylka proposed with a 20 carat diamond ring worth $2 million, which Hilton promptly lost at a Miami nightclub about a week after receiving it. “The ring was just so heavy and big that while I was dancing it literally flew off my finger into an ice bucket a couple of tables over,” Hilton explained about the fiasco. That’s a first-world problem if I ever heard one. Don’t worry, the $2 million wasn’t gone for long. “Thank God by some miracle my fiancé found it before someone else did and most likely would not have returned it. I am so lucky!”
She’s since taken some precautions to prevent something like that from happening again, buying replicas of the ring to wear when wearing $2 million on your finger probably isn’t the best idea. Like when you’re in a Miami nightclub, for example. “I had a couple replicas made because I’m scared to go to certain countries and have this ring on,” Hilton revealed to Access Live. “So I had three more of those made just, you know, for deejaying and going to certain places.” She’s also reportedly hired extra security to keep her and her diamond safe.
5. Hilton and Zylka postponed their wedding
Rumors about a strained relationship started flying when the couple announced in August 2018 that they’d postponed their wedding date. “They were all set to get married in November, but they have pushed it to May,” a source told Page Six, claiming Hilton wanted more time to plan (I guess when you’re planning 3 weddings it takes a little more time than usual).
According to Hilton’s mom Kathy, the heiress is just a bit too busy to get married just yet. “She’s got the new skincare [line], so she’s basically been traveling,” Kathy told Us Weekly. “She’s really been busy … she has contracts and you have to fulfill all [of] them, you know?” No need to worry — Kathy promises that the wedding “will be what it always was gonna be: beautiful.”
