3. “She Raised Her Voice!: 50 Black Women Who Sang Their Way Into Music History,” by Jordannah Elizabeth; illustrated by Briana Dengoue (Running Press Kids, nonfiction)

What it’s about: This fully illustrated middle-grade anthology celebrates 50 strong Black women singers through history in jazz, hip-hop, pop and opera, inspiring young readers to find their own voice.

The buzz: Kirkus Reviews calls it a “celebratory and informative homage to courageous and pioneering Black female vocalists.”

4. “My Darling Husband,” by Kimberly Belle (Park Row Books, fiction)

What it’s about: Jade and Cam Lasky are by all appearances a happy couple. But a masked home invader reveals the marriage’s cracks when a demanded ransom reveals the family’s not as financially secure as it seems – but why?

The buzz: “Belle knows how to keep the pages turning,” says Publishers Weekly, calling it a “captivating thriller.”

5. “Criminal Mischief,” by Stuart Woods (Putnam, fiction)

What it’s about: The latest Stone Barrington novel finds the lawyer on an international chase after the mastermind of a Ponzi scheme.

The buzz: “Woods fans will get their money’s worth,” says Publishers Weekly.
