Yassin's Falafel House has been a cheery Mediterranean staple in Knoxville since 2014, and a new location is opening in Maryville.

Owner Yassin Terou prides himself and his business on providing not only great food, but great opportunities for those who need them the most. Not to mention it’s gained national recognition as the nicest place in America.

That reputation is almost as bright as the restaurant’s pink walls, and it stems from Terou’s optimistic and hard-working demeanor.

When you reflect on your career so far, which achievement stands out most?

Being the nicest place in America. Voted by the Readers Digest, and [Good Morning America].

What is the greatest professional obstacle you’ve had to overcome and how did you overcome it?

Learned how to live in a new community, and I overcame it by opening my mind and heart to learn from different people and opinions.

What will you focus on in 2023?

Growing my business and community, and find a way to invest back.

What is your biggest professional dream?

Having a safe place for everyone to come to feel safe and loved, and provide job opportunities for the people having a hard time finding a job.

What mistake did you learn the most from?

It’s never too late to dream big.

What motivates you?

Seeing the smiles of my customers, members of our community and my kids.

What is the most overrated piece of business advice you’ve heard?

Love what you do and do it good.

What trait do you most want in a co-worker?

Living the dream together and caring about the business like it’s your own.

What about Knoxville would you like to improve?

I would like to see Knoxville have more diversity, and bring more people to visit from outside.

What don't people know about you?

I’ve never been in a business school or culinary school.
