(Quick note for K-drama newbies: K-dramas are often one-and-done jobs, with a season featuring around 16 episodes that can be over an hour each. Sometimes, they get a second season, but it's super common for it to be fully wrapped up in one season, so don't go thinking, Ah, that show only got one season, so it's probably not that great!)

Park Hoon (Lee Jong-suk) and his father were tricked and sent to North Korea when Hoon was a child, and once there, they were denied access to go back to South Korea. Trained by his father, who was a famous doctor, as well as years of medical school, Hoon became a prodigious cardiothoracic surgeon. At medical school, he meets and falls in love with Song Jae-hee, and they plan to flee to South Korea together after Hoon's father dies.
Hoon makes it to South Korea but loses Jae-hee. However, when he begins work at Myunwoo University Hospital, he meets a girl identical to Jae-hee who claims not to know him.

This show has a unique premise — one of its leads, Oh Yeon Joo (Han Hyo-joo), is a surgeon in the real world, and one, Kang Cheol (Lee Jong-suk), is the main character of Yeon Joo's father's famous webtoon, W.
Existing in the same era in alternate realities, Yeon Joo and Cheol's paths cross when Yeon Joo's father goes missing and she finds herself transported into the world of his webtoon via a monitor in his office.
In the world of W, Cheol is a talented Olympic shooter whose family is murdered. He is accused of the crime, and an opponent attempts to have the death penalty imposed on Cheol. He does not succeed, and Cheol devotes his life to finding the real killer and fighting crime.
Ten years later, Cheol is attacked by the same person who killed his family and left on the rooftop of his penthouse, where Yeon Joo crash lands. Yeon Joo sees a man covered in blood, and saves him before realizing that he is the main character of her father's webtoon.
Will Cheol finally get the happy ending for his story?

This historical drama follows Yeon Woo, a future queen who is rescued and raised as a shaman when her family's enemies order her assassination. Years later, she returns to the palace to claim her rightful throne.
There's a lot more going on, from love stories to political power moves and shamanic visions. The show has won 22 awards, including best drama at the 48th Baeksang Arts Awards, and has been nominated for many more.
