It's Emmy season! And by that I mean the two months between the Television Academy's 2022 nominations announcement on July 12 and the presenting of the awards Sept. 12. And if you're anything like me, you are way behind on your television watching, because the networks and streamers have been dumping what seems like 500 different shows in the last few months, trying to sneak them in before the Emmy eligibility cutoff period. But now we've got our nominees, and you've got plenty of time to catch up on this year's most acclaimed shows before the telecast. Unlike the Oscars with their dainty 23 categories, however, the Emmys reward artisans in over 100 categories. (Don't believe me? Take a look at the 58-page nomination list they sent out.) That means that even with the list of television shows trimmed to just the nominees, you're still looking at dozens and dozens of shows, comedy specials, TV movies, variety series, and commercials. Too much for any one person to watch. So to help you out, I've compiled the 30 best and buzziest nominated shows of the 2022 lot. If you watch a handful of these (and you've probably already seen plenty), you'll be golden. Below is the list of shows along with their key nominations, where to stream them, and some Emmy prognostication. Happy viewing, and I'll see you back here in September to chat about the winners!
