Here are 3 ways Delta, Frontier airlines will expand flights, service out of Green Bay airport this spring
ASHWAUBENON - Business and leisure travelers can expect more opportunities to fly out of Green Bay Austin Straubel International Airport beginning in February.
The service upgrades come after passenger traffic into and out of the airport increased 14.2% in 2022, with an average of 90% of seats on departures from Green Bay sold, said Marty Piette, the airport's director.
Now, Delta Air Lines plans to add another daily flight to its schedule and use a bigger jet on another route while Frontier Airlines has extended the schedule of one of its Green Bay flights to nearly year-round. The announcements come at a time when, Piette said, more area businesses tell him they intend to increase business travel in 2023.
"We are hearing from local companies that they are taking to the skies once again; they want to meet with customers and prospects in person and they are looking to attend conventions and trade shows," Piette said in a media release.
Here's a look at what's coming and when the airlines plan to implement it.
Frontier Airlines to extend service to Denver
Four years after it first announced it would start service out of Green Bay Austin Straubel International Airport, Frontier Airlines has extended its round-trip flights between Green Bay and Denver International Airport to nearly year-round.
The three-times-per-week round-trip service originally ran from spring to fall. This year, the route resumes on Jan. 30, per Frontier's website, and will run through December.
"They're happy with the routes," Piette said. "We're seeing those continue to do well."
Delta Air Lines to use bigger jets for Green Bay, Atlanta route
In February, Delta plans to begin using larger jets for one of its flights from Green Bay to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. Piette said the larger aircraft will offer multiple seat classes and more seats, between 126 and 162 seats, depending on the version of aircraft used.
Piette said the larger jets are one example of how Delta has responded to uptick in travel.
"Delta’s mainly a business carrier. It’s showing some strong demand from the business market and they’re responding by adding additional seats and frequency," Piette said.
Delta adds flight, bigger jets to Green Bay, Detroit route
Delta also will increase its daily service between Green Bay and Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport in March.
It will add a third, daily flight between Green Bay and Detroit to its schedule in March and use a larger aircraft that holds 76 passengers on the flights.
A search of Delta's website for round-trip flights between Green Bay and Detroit found the departures from Green Bay will leave at 7 a.m., 10:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. The flights from Detroit to Green Bay will depart, in eastern time, at 9 a.m., 4 p.m. and 8:45 p.m.
"Detroit is a quick and easy connection for those flying to the east coast,” Piette said. “Flightsto Detroit have consistently been full, so it’s good to see another flight added.”
