In the past decade, we’ve seen farmers’ markets influence the food we eat, so it’s no surprise that fresh fruits, vegetables, and herbs have made their way into our cocktails as well.

Muddled fruit, tart-and-tangy homemade syrups, and infused liquors give your garden-variety drinks a boost of flavor.

At Julie Reiner’s Brooklyn bar, Clover Club (which also happens to be the neighborhood go-to of our Brooklyn-based editor), she dedicates an entire section of the menu to drinks inspired by what’s in season.

Likewise, in her just-released cocktail book,The Craft Cocktail Party, she devotes an entire chapter to drinks that take advantage of summer’s plethora of produce. “At the season’s height, when every stand at the farmers’ market sags under the weight of pristine berries, plump tomatoes, and bunches of fragrant herbs, my bar starts to resemble a garden,” she writes.

From a Bloody Mary made with fresh tomatoes and basil to a berry delicious gin cocktail, her recipes have us feeling positively parched and in need of something boozy, fruity, and refreshing—stat! We’ve cherry-picked three that use your farmers’ market haul in three different ways. Some require a bit more forethought and prep work, but they’re well worth it. Bottoms up!
