3 Ballerina Tricks for Leaner, Longer-Looking Legs — In Minutes!

When it comes to cultivating long, lean muscles, Mary Helen Bowers is your girl. She’s the ballerina-turned-celebrity-trainer responsible for transforming Natalie Portman into a dancer for her Oscar-winning role in Black Swan, and toning her many celebrity clients (think: Zooey Deschanel, Liv Tyler, and just about the entire cast of the Victoria’s Secret catalog).

Now, she’s sharing her cult-favorite moves with Yahoo Health in an exclusive summer video series. In this last installment, (watch above!), Bowers shows us three moves for tight, toned legs that’ll help you feel strong and confident in any summer outfit. Plus, there’s an exclusive offer on Bower’s super-effective workouts, below!

Move #1: Start down on the mat on your side, pulling in your stomach to engage the core. Keeping your top leg bent, knee to the ceiling, so your toes are resting on the floor in front of your hips. Stretch your bottom leg out long and lift it, keeping your leg straight. Left in sets of 8, working up to 4 sets of 8. Reverse sides.

Move #2: Begin on your side. Curl both legs at a 90-degree angle, so your feet are pointing directly behind you. Lift your top foot up while keeping your knees together. That’s the starting position. Straighten the top leg and lift it up as high as you can; return to the starting position. That’s one rep. Start with one set of 8 on each side, working up to 4 sets of 8 as your muscles get stronger.

Move #3: Start standing with your right foot directly under your hip, foot turned out to the side at a 45-degree angle. Extend your left foot directly in front of you, leg straight, with the top of your toes touching the ground. Bend your right knee slightly to pulse down a few inches, then lift back up (check the video for a challenging addition). Repeat 8 times on each side for 1 or 2 sets.
