3-alarm blaze ravages Brockton home, leaves residents reeling

BROCKTON — A fire at the last house on a dead end street at 71-73 Taber Ave. in Brockton on Wednesday morning left two families reeling, officials said.

James Ocasio, one of the residents, says his deck lit on fire before the rest of the house went up in smoke.

"That was the beginning of the end right there," he said.

According to Brockton Fire Chief Brian Nardelli, Wednesday's fire was three alarms and required support from many firefighters to put out the flames.

While there is no official report on what caused the fire, which was reported at 11:46 a.m., Ocasio said their home Ring camera caught the "black mulch decorations in their yard go up in flames."

"[Last night], my wife and I heard what sounded like a smoldering fire in our backyard at around 9:30 p.m., but after inspecting the area we didn't find anything," he added.

Firefighters are still looking at whether any property is salvageable. As of now, the fire department reports no injuries and the investigation into what caused the fire is ongoing.
