26 Celebrity Couples Who Broke Up in 2022

Summer has barely begun, and yet celebrity relationships are ending faster than ever. By June, more than two dozen previously coupled-up stars have announced their splits, filed for divorce, or—in the case of Olivia Rodrigo and Adam Faze—just quietly stopped being spotted by paps. And while there are a lot of new couples to get excited about (Kim and Pete continue to be a nonstop source of entertainment), it’s time to look back at the celebs who have called it quits in 2022.

Bachelor Nation couple Katie and John confirmed their breakup on Instagram. Her statement was quick and to the point (“no, we aren’t together”) while his was a bit lengthier. “As Katie stated earlier, we are no longer dating. The decision was not made lightly, and it was obviously not an easy one to make,” he said. “I appreciate every one of you that has supported us throughout this journey. We could not (and would not) be here without you.”

Bachelorette couple Michelle Young and Nayte Olukoya confirmed rumors that they’d split, releasing statements on social media. “I’m struggling to say that Nayte and I will be going our separate ways, but I stand with him in knowing the heaviness that is present in both of our hearts as this relationship has been very real for us,” Michelle said, while Nayte noted that “hearts are heavy, emotions are high, and we are dealing with this the best way we can.”

People reports that Parenthood stars Lauren Graham and Peter Krause have split up after more than a decade of dating. A rep for Lauren confirmed the news, actually noting the pair “quietly ended their relationship last year.”

Johnny Knoxville and his wife Naomi Nelson are getting divorced after 12 years together. People reports that Johnny filed divorce docs (citing irreconcilable differences) which revealed they’ve been split up since September 24, 2021.

Not exactly a huge surprise, but Scott and Rebecca split after just a few months, with a source telling E! News, “Although they had a short-lived romance, it was definitely serious. He enjoyed his time with her but realized he is not in a place to seriously date right now.”

News broke that Michael B. Jordan and Lori Harvey had split up after a year and a half of dating on June 4, when a source told People, “Michael and Lori are both completely heartbroken. They still love each other. Michael matured a lot over the course of their relationship and was ready to commit for the long-term. He let down his guard with her, opening up emotionally in a romantic relationship for the first time. They had great times together and brought out the best in each other.”

Longtime couple Shakira and Gerard Piqué announced their split in a joint statement in early June, saying, “We regret to confirm that we are separating. We ask for privacy at this moment for the well-being of our children, who are our maximum priority. Thank you in advance for your understanding and respect.”

Bella and Benjamin ended their engagement after little over a year, and Benjamin confirmed the split in a lengthy Instagram statement, writing in part, “I wish only the best for this person and I will always be there for her.” People was the first to report the news, saying that “conflicting schedules” and “a lot of time apart” were the reasons for the split.

After lots of ups and downs, Us Weekly reported that Liam and Maya split—and news of their breakup came amid a photo of Liam with another person popping up on social media. Maya ended up commenting on the pic, writing (via @popcrave), “I love all of the fans so much but please stop sending me these pictures of my fiancé wrapped around another woman. This is not me and it’s hard enough knowing this has happened without seeing it. Enough now.”

After 23 years of marriage, Steve Burton announced he was ending his marriage to Sheree while accusing her of being pregnant with another man’s child. In a statement posted on Instagram Stories, Steve wrote, “I wanted to clear something up. Sheree and I are separated. She recently announced that she’s expecting her 4th child. The child is not mine. We are still coparenting our three beautiful kids. We would appreciate privacy at this time. Much luv, Steve.”

Shailene and Aaron have broken up twice this year, but it looks like they’re officially done-done. These two first called off their engagement in February 2022, with a source telling Entertainment Tonight, “They tried to make their relationship work but with busy careers in different industries, it was hard to see one another. The two have no animosity toward one another and plan to remain as friends.”

They then reunited for a minute, but an E! News source said at the end of April 2022, “Shailene tried to give it another shot and was spending time with Aaron. But she quickly saw that everything was on his terms and nothing was going to change. There was no reason to continue and she’s done with it again.”

Ali Wong and Justin Hakuta confirmed their divorce after 8 years of marriage in April 2022, with a source telling People, “It’s amicable and they will continue to coparent lovingly.”

Andrew and Alyssa broke up in early April 2022 after just a few months of dating, with a source telling Entertainment Tonight, “Their work commitments and schedules made it hard for them to continue their relationship. Andrew is staying positive and surrounding himself with his close friends and loved ones.” That said, Alyssa caused some confusion post-breakup by sharing a picture of herself and Andrew on Instagram, which she captioned, “If you must gossip at least use a cute photo. Lol, love you, AG.”

This is actually the third time Tish has filed for divorce from Billy Ray. Us Weekly obtained court documents in which Tish cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the breakup, saying she and Billy have not “cohabited as man and wife for a continuous period of more than two years.”

Russian Doll actor Natasha Lyonne confirmed that she Fred ended their long-term relationship because she wanted a swimming pool and he didn’t.

“I honestly think we broke up because I wanted a swimming pool,” Natasha told the Hollywood Reporter in April 2022. “We love each other just about as much as two people can love each other and we’re still talking all the time, but Freddy doesn’t like a swimming pool.”

Another long-term marriage that ended this year? Kenan Thompson and his wife Christina Evangeline’s, who broke up in April 2022 after 10 years of being together. A source close to the couple confirmed the split to TMZ, although papers haven’t been filed yet.

Us Weekly reported that Chris and Annabelle had broken up after four years of dating in early March 2022, with a source saying the actors “haven’t been together for a few months now.” No reason was given for the split.

After a truly wild and unprecedented month and a half, Julia and Kanye parted ways.

This sweet couple broke up after two years of dating, although a source close to Cory told People they are still “good friends.”

Dancing With the Stars pro Cheryl Burke filed for divorce from Matthew Lawrence after almost three years of marriage back in February 2022, with a source telling Us Weekly that the exes were “keeping divorce matters private” and the reason for their breakup “was not about having kids.”

Cheryl has since talked a little about the split, telling Tamron Hall via E! News, “People evolve and people grow. And sometimes they grow together and sometimes, you know, you unfortunately grow apart.”

Emma and Garrett split after three years in February 2022, and a source said she gave her ex multiple ultimatums. According to the Us Weekly insider, “Garrett and Emma have a great coparenting relationship. When he’s sober, he’s a great guy and they’ve been handling coparenting very well.”

The good news? “They have a very amicable relationship with each other and are being very adult about their breakup.”

Jason and Lisa dropped the bombshell news of their split in January 2022, saying in a joint statement, “We have all felt the squeeze and changes of these transformational times…a revolution is unfolding~ and our family is of no exception…feeling and growing from the seismic shifts occurring. News, “They have been rocky for a while now and are taking time apart. They are trying to work out their plan on how they will coparent their daughters peacefully.”
