25 Photos of The Beatles Behind the Scenes at Abbey Road

On August 8, 1969 the four Beatles walked out of No. 3 Abbey Road after finishing recording what would eventually be their penultimate album. A photo of this crossing would become the cover of that album—an album cover that is now regarded as one of the most iconic, and recreated, of all time. They had 15 minutes to shoot the cover. And photographer Iain Macmillan stood on a stepladder while the musicians walked back and forth across the street and a police officer stopped traffic. Fifty years later, it remains an image that defined an era, a band, and a generation of music. Today, there's even a webcam set up that provides a live feed of the iconic crosswalk.
