When you have no idea what to gift someone, a candle is always a good go-to. Who doesn't love a little ambiance at home? Plus, with all of the candle offerings out there, you can customize the scent and vessel based on who you're gifting it to. Easy, right?
To help take the stress out of holiday gifting, we rounded up some of our favorites, in order from the ultimate splurges to moderately priced finds to cheap but chic candles. Take your pick…
Candles can be so damn expensive, but for good reason—they can be so luxurious and elevate any room. If you want to splurge on something big for the candle enthusiast or VIP in your life, look no further than these below.
Jo Malone London Orange Bitters Deluxe Scented Candle ($220)
One of the best things about Jo Malone candles is they already come in elegant boxes wrapped with a bow so you don't even have to worry about a gift bag or wrapping paper. This orange, sandalwood, amber scent was made for a cozy winter evening.
L'Objet Leopard Candle with Rose Quartz ($150)
It's hard not to "spot" (sorry, we had to) that leopard print (and any kind of animal print, really) is in. Give this pink champagne-scented candle to that stylish person on your list. The vessel is made of porcelain 24-karat gold and rose quartz details, so they'll want to keep it as a home decor accessory even when the wax is gone.
Diptyque Lucky Flowers, Protective Pine & Blissful Amber Candle Set ($114)
Unfortunately, Diptyque's popular advent calendar is already sold out, but you can still gift the candle enthusiast in your life this limited-edition set.
Tom Dixon Terrazzo Large Scented Candle ($190)
The design enthusiast you know will appreciate this terrazzo candle. The Italian design motif has made a big comeback in recent years, and now it's on pretty much everything, from floors to tables to, well, candles. The Tom Dixon candle has a very on-theme Mediterranean scent with bergamot, lemon, green fig, guaiac wood, and vetivert.
Cire Trudon Maduraï Classic Candle, Splendour of Indian Jasmine ($115)
The striking navy vessel makes for a beautiful piece of décor on a nightstand, mantel, or coffee table. This candle has notes of jasmine and ylang ylang for a rich, aromatic scent.
Tom Ford Fabulous Candle ($132)
You're pretty much only allowed to give this candle to someone who embodies its name. Them's the rules.
Byredo Mini Candle Set ($129)
When you can't decide which scent to give your friend, don't stress and just gift them a set. This one contains three of Byredo's most popular scents: Cotton Poplin, Bibliothèque, and Burning Rose.
$50 to $100
Candles can be an investment piece—I like to think of the price and burn time to justify any big purchases. At this price point of $50 to $100, you're going to find some great deals if you're using the cost-per-burn-time method.
Coppermill Kitchen Vintage Candle No. 02 ($85)
Not sure what we love more: the beautiful, vintage, and one-of-a-kind copper vessel or the grapefruit-mint scent. Either way, this one makes a special gift.
Le Labo 'Santal 26' Vintage Tin Candle ($65)
You can't go wrong with this classic scent from Le Labo. Instead of the usual glass jars, this one comes in a unique distressed tin can.
D.S. & Durga Big Sur After Rain ($65)
This candle has one of the most unique scents we've ever come across: It "captures the scent of rainwater in eucalyptus groves off California's Highway 1." Give this one to your road trip buddy.
Anthropologie Giant Capri Blue Mercury Glass Candle ($78)
If you've ever been inside an Anthropologie, you know Capri Blue has a cult status. This one has a scent of tropical fruits, sugared oranges, lemons and limes, and "lightly exotic mountain greens."
Nest Fragrances Cedar Leaf & Lavender 3-Wick Candle ($68)
With scents of rosemary, lavender, sage, cedar leaves, eucalyptus, this Nest candle will provide plenty of stress-relief and relaxation. It has a 100-hour burn time, so it will last whoever you give this time a while.
The White Company Large Ribbed Candle ($79)
The White Company makes such elegant products, and this candle is no different. The refreshing scent of fresh dew, white florals, and jasmine will make any space feel clean and homey.
$20 to $50
The $20 to $50 price point is a great place to be if you know you're exchanging gifts with someone but aren't exactly sure how extravagant or simple said gifts will be. You won't feel too bad if you bought a $40 candle for someone who got you a $25 coffee table book. And vice versa.
Part of Paddywax's Hygge collection, this candle is truly the coziest. It has woodsy notes of bergamot, rose geranium, and patchouli.
West Elm Modern Elements Candles - Large ($49)
Choose from three different scents: Rose Quartz (citron, lemon blossom, magnolia); Alabaster (green, ozone, floral); and Onyx (citrus, green, sandalwood). The ceramic marbled vessels can be reused as a éecor piece, too.
Jonathan Adler Pop Candle, Champagne ($36)
Instead of a champagne bottle, why not give someone this candle, which is almost like the real thing? It's packed with scents like pink grapefruit, sparkling champagne, raspberry, French cassis, violet leaves, rose petals, crushed sage, crisp mint, and grape leaf.
Voluspa Japonica Glass Candles, Set of 3 ($29)
Give your friend this candle set so they can put on in just about every room—the bedroom, bathroom, and living room. Each candle has a scent of grapefruit, white lily, and plums respectively.
Illume Go Be Lovely Lidded Ceramic Candle ($28)
The ceramic, hand-painted base really caught our eye, and it was an extra bonus when we found out that it had notes of honeysuckle, neroli blossoms and woods. It has a 50-hour burn time.
P.F. Candle Co. Trio Candle Gift Set ($33)
This trio contains seasonal, comforting scents of black fig, spiced pumpkin, and spruce so your friend can keep the holiday season going all year long.
Homesick Nashville Canlde ($30)
Scents can really conjure up some beloved memories, which is why Homesick candles are such a brilliant concept. They're inspired by the scents of cities like New York, Chicago, Atlanta, Nashville, and Los Angeles. Gift this to the person who won't shut up (in a good way) when it comes to their hometown pride.
Just because it's on the inexpensive side, doesn't mean it's going to look cheap. There are so many candles out there that won't set you back too much, but will still make thoughtful gifts.
Urban Outfitters Lunar 6 oz Candle ($14)
This lunar-inspired candle was made for someone who really believes in cosmic energy. It comes in three different scents: Celestial Eucalyptus, Moon Lavender, and Steller Rose.
West Elm Rove Votive Candles ($19)
In chic mouth-blown vessels, these candles can be burned alone or mixed and matched for an interesting fragrance combination. Each has a burn time of 40 hours.
Boy Smells Purple Kush Scented Votive Candle ($16)
For your 420-friendly pal, this candle has notes of cannabis, brushed suede, florals, white musk, and amber. It's made of coconut wax and beeswax.
Paddywax Sky Blu Sea Salt & Plumeria Scented Candle ($16)
The eye-catching iridescent vessel is definitely a statement piece, while the sea salt, jasmine, and cedar can be so calming.
Urban Outfitters Parker Collection Candle ($16)
Inside these apothecary-inspired jars are some moody, woodsy unique scents like sage, patchouli, and amber. They're made with vegan wax and have a 30-hour burn time.
