Three teen-agers were arrested on drug charges Tuesday as police drug dogs scanned the parking lots of Frederick County's six high schools outside Frederick city limits. During a four-hour sweep, the dogs indicated the presences of drugs in more than a dozen vehicles. After their drivers were called to the parking lot, one by one the cars were searched, as school officials stood by. Evidence was found in three of them, and the three students were charged, one each at Catoctin, Linganore and Urbana high schools, police said.

The State Highway Administration will activate two new traffic signals on the Woodsboro bypass on Friday. The lights are located where Md. 550 and Coppermine Road intersect the bypass, which takes Md. 194 around town. A flashing yellow signal already located at the Md. 550 intersection will be upgraded to a full red-yellow-green signal.

Nearly 800 people pleaded with the Frederick County Commissioners on Tuesday night to fund fully the school system's $223.4 million budget request. Though several speakers said they favored the Board of Education's plans to boost technology and reading programs, most speaker brought up teacher raises. Most of the people in the audience were teachers. The Frederick County Teachers Association and the school board have agreed to a 4 percent raise for teachers, which would be the first cost-of-living pay hike in six years, according to one speaker.
