With every passing year, the Marvel Cinematic Universe continues to expand, telling new stories filled with faces both old and new.

But there have been a select few characters from throughout the MCU that have been lost in the shuffle for one reason or another. I've put together a list of 22 notable characters that have since gone MIA in the MCU.

1.Doc Sampson (Ty Burrell), The Incredible Hulk

2.Liz (Laura Harrier), Spider-Man: Homecoming

"Spider-Man: Homecoming"

One of the main characters in Spider-Man: Homecoming, Liz's relocation after her father, Adrian Toomes, is arrested kept her away from Spider-Man sequels, and Toomes' appearance in Sony's Spider-Verse via Morbius, might make her MCU absence permanent.

3.President Matthew Ellis (William Sadler), Iron Man 3

4.Robbie Reyes/Ghost Rider (Gabriel Luna), Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Marvel is introducing Blade into Phase Four of the MCU, but Ghost Rider is still waiting in the wings, with Gabriel Luna's iteration of Robbie Reyes still unused in the primary MCU canon despite the actor being allegedly contracted to return at some point.

5.Madame B. (Julie Delpy), Avengers: Age of Ultron

6.Gabe Jones (Derek Luke), Captain America: The First Avenger

7.Daisy Johnson/Quake (Chloe Bennet), Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

"Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D."

8.Justin Hammer (Sam Rockwell), Iron Man 2

"Iron Man 2"

Last seen in All Hail the King, there seems to be unfinished business with the anti-Tony Stark in the MCU, especially when you have a performer with the pedigree and charisma of Sam Rockwell on the books.

9.The Koenigs (Patton Oswalt), Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

With Patton Oswalt voicing Eros's minion, Pip the Troll, and the questionable canon of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it seems that any future appearances of the funny first family of S.H.I.E.L.D., the Koenigs, in the MCU are improbable at best.

10.Jackson Norriss (Scoot McNairy), All Hail the King

When Shang Chi was announced to tie the Ten Rings back into the Marvel Cinematic Universe post-Iron Man 3, fans were curious if anyone from the One-Shot All Hail the King would find their way back into the MCU. While Trevor Slattery returned to the proceedings, Scoot McNairy's deceptive mercenary has been out of sight since his debut.

11.Eir (Alice Krige), Thor: The Dark World

"Thor: The Dark World"

Though it could be fair to assume Eir was slain during the slaughter of Asgardians at the beginning of Infinity War, there's been nothing but radio silence on this powerful Asgardian physician since her appearance in Thor: The Dark World.

12.Aaron Davis (Donald Glover), Spider-Man: Homecoming

Marvel diehards know Aaron Davis is the uncle of future Spider-Man Miles Morales, which is why it's been so odd that there haven't been any callbacks or return appearances for Donald Glover's street-smart Homecoming character thus far.

13.Aleta Ogord (Michelle Yeoh), Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2

While the Ravagers may not have explicitly partaken in the war against Thanos at the end of Avengers: Endgame, one wonders if Aleta Ogord will have a presence in Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 3, considering the warm reception to Michelle Yeoh's graceful mentor character Ying Nan in Shang Chi.

14.Rhomann Dey (John C. Reilly), Guardians of the Galaxy

"Guardians of the Galaxy"

One of the more sympathetic figures in the Guardians of the Galaxy series, Rhomann Dey was presumed to have passed in Thanos's massacre of Xandar, but fans of Nova know that he may have a different fate in the future of the MCU.

15.Black Bolt (Anson Mount), Inhumans

Much like Helstrom and Cloak & Dagger, Marvel's Inhumans has been on the shakiest ground regarding their canonical placement in the MCU, leaving it highly unlikely we may see Anson Mount reprising the role of Black Bolt in the near future, if at all.

16.Mitchell Carson (Martin Donovan), Ant-Man

One of the strangest cliffhangers yet to be addressed in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, HYDRA loyalist Mitchell Carson escaped from the conflict of Ant-Man unscathed and in possession of Pym Particles, though his whereabouts, intentions, and collaborators have been unknown since 2015.

17.W’Kabi (Daniel Kaluuya), Black Panther

"Black Panther"

18.Felix Blake (Titus Welliver), Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

For a while, Felix Blake appeared to be the Marvel's next Coulson surrogate, but Titus Welliver's commitments on Bosch and the subsequent utilization of Maria Hill have led to Blake becoming a footnote in the MCU.

19.Ava Starr/Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen), Ant-Man and the Wasp

"Ant-Man and the Wasp"

It feels fairly certain that Ava Starr may return to the MCU at some point, but the character has basically been on ice (alongside Laurence Fishburne's Bill Foster) since the Ant-Man sequel in 2018.

20.Samuel Sterns (Tim Blake Nelson), The Incredible Hulk

21.Dr. Helen Cho (Claudia Kim), Avengers: Age of Ultron

"Avengers: Age of Ultron"

A subtly integral character to the plot of Age of Ultron, Dr. Cho has essentially disappeared from the MCU, despite her connection to Vision and her recruitment to the scientific wing of the now-destroyed Avengers Campus.

22.MacDonald "Mac" Gargan (Michael Mando), Spider-Man: Homecoming

In the closing moments of Spider-Man: Homecoming, the future "Scorpion" reaffirmed his vendetta against Spider-Man and casually intimidated Adrian Toomes, though the character has not been seen or heard from in either Marvel or Sony's Spider-Verse in any film since.
