21 Times Movies And TV Shows Used CGI When They Should’ve Just Left It Alone

·4 min read

Personally, I would consider myself a fan of CGI.

Will I ever stop screaming about the incredible animation of Rapunzel's hair in Tangled??? Probably not.

But, when CGI is bad, it's REALLY bad. Like, "live on eternally in my nightmares" bad. Here are just a few CGI examples that wake me up screaming in the middle of the night.

1.This harrowing example from The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl:

George Lopez as Mr. Electric in the film

Ironically, the worst part of this is not the CGI, but just the basic placement of George Lopez's face. It looks like they used one of those old photo booths where it would sub your face in for a character, or faceinhole (lol, remember faceinhole?).

2.This poor, poor version of Rufus in the live-action Kim Possible movie:

Somebody put it out of its misery.

3.Those terrifying Gushers commercials:

4.The CGI version of Timmy Turner:

Does anyone else think he looks like Momo???

5.This grotesque terror from The Lawnmower Man:

giant monster with veiny-piped body and a metallic head

This movie had Pierce Brosnan. Let that sink in.

6.This monstrosity from V:

woman unhinging her jaw to eat a mouse

I don't even care about the eating-a-mouse part, or the unhinged jaw part. I care about this CGI. When I close my eyes, I see this horrifying image.

7.This freakish creature that was allegedly supposed to be a cat from Cats and Dogs:

I hate this so much.

8.Snyder and the troll from Barbie and the Diamond Castle:

Snyder (a dragon)

Utterly bone-chilling. This is my favorite Barbie movie, but these guys honestly give me such heebie-jeebies that I skip their scenes.

Mattel Entertainment

9.Tika from Barbie as the Island Princess:

Tika (an elephant with makeup on)

I am just so disturbed by her makeup and those lashes???? Too human. Elephants don't wear makeup!!

Mattel Entertainment

10.Pimm from Barbie in the Nutcracker:

Pimm (a bat)

I could do an entire post on Barbie characters, but I'll stop here for all our sakes.

11.The original version of Sonic from Sonic the Hedgehog:

Sonic with smaller eyes/a more human face

I don't even need to talk about this. Y'all know. Thank god he was redesigned.

12.This abomination from Leo the Lion:

Mom, come pick me up. I'm scared.

13.Everything about ReBoot:

two sci-fi characters

I'm not here to hate on ReBoot. ReBoot was groundbreaking. It also strikes fear deep into my heart. Both statements are equally valid.

14.Pappy from Rolie-Polie Olie:

Look, I loved this show growing up, but something about Pappy's jaw didn't sit right with me.

Disney Channel

15.Whatever was going on with The Rock in The Scorpion King:

The Rock as the Scorpion King

I get why they CGI'd his body, obviously, but why is his face like that? :/

Universal Pictures

16.These beady-eyed motherfuckers from Christopher Robin:

When I saw this trailer, a piece of me died. My brain will not comprehend it. It's too realistic and yet simultaneously not.

I can appreciate the effort that went into this, but again, something about his mouth and teeth feels far too human for me.

19.Just every aspect ofThe Lion King (2019):

Simba and Mufasa from the film

This one is more a problem with just CGI ruining something than it being nightmare fuel, but my point stands. LEAVE THE LION KING (1994) ALONE!!!

20.The cheetah version of Kristen Wiig's character in Wonder Woman 1984:

Photorealistic cat-humans just...don't sit well with me. I think it's the furry human body aspect. Which brings me to...

21.And finally...Cats. Just everything about Cats:
