The best rain boots for women are nothing novel, but the function-first silhouette has been given a chic makeover, increasing consumer interest. That’s why despite the changing climate impacting the need for rain and all-weather product, the rain boots market is expected to be worth around $2590 million by 2032, up from $1720 million in 2022,” according to Global Newswire.

More from Footwear News

It’s important to note that the unexpected rise of women’s rain boots certainly didn’t happen overnight. It all started when inspirational tastemakers became obsessed with Phoebe Philo’s Celine orthopedic rain boots, part of her pre-fall 2018 collection. Then, celebrities like Kendall Jenner and Lori Harvey inundated our social media feeds with Bottega Veneta’s unique Puddle Boots  However, more recently, the rain boot became a cool-girl staple when Chanel showcased a wearable pair of knee-high wellies with a signature contrasting logo for its Fall/Winter 2022 collection.

As per tradition, the trend has also trickled down to mass-market labels. Alongside traditional Wellington boot styles from outdoor experts like Sloggers and Kamik, the staple rubber boot has been updated with stylish features like exaggerated lug soles and elegant quilted details by favorites, including Everlane, Ganni, and Jil Sander. And for those who shy away from rubbery looks altogether, there have also been a handful of waterproof options designed with a more modern take on the traditional style.

With all this in mind, we’ve tapped many footwear experts and compiled the best rain boots for women that are both functional and cute. Our edit includes styles offered in a range of heights and silhouettes, expert tips to consider before buying the best women’s rain boots, and selects back by glowing customer reviews.

Best Tall Rain Boots for Women

Hunter Tall Insulated Boots

Best Insulated Tall Rain Boot for Women

  • Size range: 5-11

  • Colorways: Black, Navy, Military Red, Yellow, Hunter Green, Skimming Stone, Faded Rose, Robrbu Rust, Olive Leaf

  • Material: Rubber, Recycled polyester lining and insole

  • Shaft height: 14.76 inches

Hunter has been around for over 100 years, and continues to be celebrated by both celebrities and average shoppers for its stylish and classic black rain boots for women. Dr. Cunha is especially partial to this insulated pair from the brand. It offers ample wet weather protection thanks to a vulcanized rubber construction that seals out every drop of moisture and a traction outsole for grip on slick surfaces. It’s also sherpa-lined and insulated, designed to keep you warm in temperatures as low as negative five degrees Celsius. The only downside to this boot is that the sherpa lining isn’t breathable. “The material promotes a moist environment, which can create a breeding ground for foot conditions like mold, fungus, bacteria and wart viruses,” explains Dr. Cunha. As such, he suggests wearing this boot only for shorter periods of time.

What reviewers say: “I’m very active and always on the go even in the cold winter months. I own a lot of Hunter boots and bought these specifically for their insulated feature and tall silhouette. They keep me warm in the cold weather and have room to add a thicker sock for extra warmth. I wear a lot of athletic leggings and the boots look great with them. The only downside is that I found is difficulty driving in them. I can’t bend my ankle/foot enough to feel the accelerator, so I opt for other boots when I’m the driver. I wear them for long walks when I need the extra coverage, running errands and even chores in the yard. They’re comfortable and long-lasting.”

Ugg Shaye Rain Boots

Coziest Tall Rain Boot for Women

  • Size range: 5-11

  • Material: Rubber

  • Shaft height: 12.75 inches

You may already love Ugg’s cozy shearling boots for lounging around the house, running errands or styling with some of your favorite athleisure pieces à la trendsetters like Gigi Hadid or Kendall Jenner. If so, you really have no excuse not to try the brand’s classic rain boots. They feature the label’s signature plush linings you crave and can accommodate orthotics if necessary, all while offering full waterproof protection on the wettest days. With this particular pair, you’ll find subtle branding and a luxe high-gloss finish that elevate the casual style just a bit.

What reviewers say: “Anyone who has sports related injuries to their feet (arthritis, neuropathy, sesamoiditis, etc) knows that finding comfortable yet stylish footwear is a challenge. I’ve worn Ugg’s Shaye rain boots for about a month through the rain and southern Appalachian snow. I love them. I can easily switch out the Ugg sheepskin insoles for my orthotics when needed. The boots are roomy, but not too tight or wide (regardless of the insole I wear). They’re waterproof, warm and have decent traction on slippery terrain. I definitely recommend this style to other people who have sports related injuries to their feet and need some decent footwear.”

Bogs Neo-Classic Tall Rain Boots

Best Work Rain Boot for Women

  • Size range: 6-12

  • Colorways: Black shiny, Black matte

  • Material: Rubber

  • Shaft height: 13 inches

Dr. Cunha recommends this boot from Bogs as it doesn’t bend in the mid arch and has a subtle heel to help prevent foot pain. It’s designed as a work boot, meaning it’s extremely rugged and can perform as an everyday boot in the harshest conditions, too. It has a durable hand-lasted rubber upper, plus a four-way stretch shaft that not only allows for freedom of movement, but is also waterproof and insulating to keep feet dry and warm. And, the style is packed with plenty of other comfort features to keep you moving, including an EVA footbed with gel cushioning, Rebound technology for shock absorption and a proprietary Flex Width insole that adapts to your foot width for excellent support. Topped off with a moisture-wicking, anti-odor lining, grippy outsole and pull handles for easy on and off access, this boot is ready to face it all.

What reviewers say: “I’ve worn these hiking in rocky terrain through heavy underbrush to do forestry maintenance. They held up and were comfortable to wear for hours of bushwhacking. Super waterproof. Warm in cold, but not miserably sweaty in hot and humid. Great boots.”

Sloggers Rain & Garden Boots

Best Women’s Rain Boot With Arch Support

  • Size range: 6-11

  • Colorways: Over 14 different patterns

  • Material: 100% recyclable material

  • Shaft height: 10.5 inches

Perfect for hitting the streets or backyard for some weeding, these boots from Sloggers feature a heavy-duty lug sole designed for ultimate traction on both wet pavement and muddy terrain. The style also includes a formed insole that’s seven millimeters thick at the heel and five millimeters thick at the ball of the foot to support your arch and entire foot throughout the day. In addition to offering the support you crave, the eco-friendly boot is made of 100% recycled materials. Grab it in a range of fun prints to complete your collection, including a subtle dotted or poppy-inspired pattern that will have you dreaming of sunnier days.

What reviewers say: “I bought these on recommendation of a friend who said they are the toughest most long lasting farm boots she’s ever had. Most pairs don’t last her a year without cracking or leaking but she said after two years they are still leak and crack-free! Very comfortable. I sized one size up so I could wear thick socks and added a gel insole for extra cushy comfort, but they were fine without it, too. Not flat footed like most rubber boots but contoured with arch support. I could literally hike in these or wear them all day. Sturdy, not thin, but still not clunky and heavy. And they look nice enough to run to town in on rainy days, too, without me feeling or looking like a farmhand.”

Kamik Heidi Rain Boots

Best Eco-Friendly Rain Boot for Women

  • Size range: 6-11

  • Colorways: Black, Red, Yellow

  • Material: 100% manmade

  • Shaft height: 11 inches

Another veteran in the rain boot business, Kamik doesn’t disappoint. This high-gloss style from the brand not only looks great but is also supremely functional with its fully waterproof upper, grippy Atrium outsole and plush EVA footbed that can be removed to accommodate custom orthotics. Additionally, the style is all-vegan and composed of 100% recycled materials. Plus, it’s great to wear after dark, as it features reflective panels to keep you more visible within your group or oncoming traffic on the road.

What reviewers say: “These look sleek and modern. No bulky toe box here (oh, and my feet are wide and fit perfect with extra room), plus there is extra room in the calf area (which can be an issue, and was something I was concerned about since I didn’t try them on before buying). They also have a nice lining inside. What’s more, the company recycles the boots, so you can send them back when you no longer wear them. The fact that this brand cares about its environmental footprint makes me happy, as well as the fact that the company is known for making outdoor wear. It’s a good product with a very reasonable price.

Best Short Rain Boots for Women

FitFlop WonderWelly Rain Boots

Best Women’s Rain Boots for Walking

  • Size range: 5-11

  • Colorways: Black, Midnight Navy

  • Material: Rubber

  • Shaft height: 14 inches

This editor is a huge fan of FitFlop’s offerings (in fact, its sneakers are the most comfortable non-athletic shoes I’ve ever-owned). For delicious underfoot support on rainy days, the brand has taken its biomechanically-engineered technology a step further in its WonderWelly boots. In practice, this looks like a contoured sole for even weight distribution, the brand’s honeycomb design placed in the heel to absorb impact and micro “springboards” in the forefoot to add bounce to your step. Essentially, you could explore a new city, spend your entire day at Disneyland or wear these on repeat during the work week without getting sore feet.

While I’ll admit that some of the brand’s styles can look a bit orthopedic, this sleek, lightweight boot isn’t one of them. Its roomy shaft and moderate hemline make for a cute, relaxed look when paired with jeans or leggings.

What reviewers say: “FitFlops’ comfortable sole in these wellies lets me garden/walk in rainy weather without sore feet. Highly recommend.”

Crocs Jaunt Shorty Boots

Best Lightweight Short Rain Boot for Women

  • Size range: 4-11

  • Colorways: Black, Navy

  • Material: Rubber

  • Shaft height: 8 inches

When it comes to buying a shorter rain boot, you can’t go wrong with Crocs’ Jaunty. The brand knows what it does best — its signature Croslite foam — and applies it here for a lightweight, cushioned feel. (Sadly though, unlike the label’s Classic Clogs, these aren’t customizable with Jibbitz charms.) Other key components of the boot include pull handles for easy on and off access, an adjustable shaft so you can loosen or tighten the fit and rubber pods in the outsole to to boost traction and durability on all sorts of wet surfaces. Keep in mind these run about a full size big, so make sure to size down when shopping unless you plan to wear these with thick socks.

What reviewers say: “I love my new boots! I’ve been wearing them for hours walking around and they are very comfortable. No problem with them rubbing against my shin or being too tight. These are super lightweight like any Crocs shoe. There is some nice arch support going on. Not flat. Also, I literally just stood in a shallow pool of water, and these babies are indeed waterproof.”

Kodiak Survey II Boots

Best Hiker-Style Rain Boots for Women

  • Size range: 5-11, half sizes included

  • Colorways: Curry, Black, Cocoa, Raptor

  • Material: 100% leather

  • Shaft height: 11 inches

For a silhouette that looks less like a classic rubber boot and more like a core style in your wardrobe, try this hiker-style boot from Kodiak. A luxe leather upper and gold D-ring accents give these boots street style appeal, but they’re more than just a pretty exterior. Dr. Cunha notes that the one-inch heel makes the boot look good but also helps take stress of the Achilles tendon to help with your alignment and posture. Meanwhile, the lace-up details keep the foot in place as a durable rubber tread enhances stability. Feet will also stay cozy in these, thanks to the inclusion of an insulated liner.

What reviewers say: “I wanted something three-season (minimum), waterproof, and functional, while avoiding the popular duck boot trend (too preppy for my style), as well as something that would work with jeans, pants, shorts, leggings, etc. This is it. These are comfortable and obviously well-made. The leather is rich and beautiful, and is thick without being rigid. I like them so much that I ordered them in black, too.”

L.L. Bean Bean Boots

Best Duck Rain Boots for Women

  • Size range: 5-11

  • Colorways: Bright Navy, Tan/Brown, Tan/Navy

  • Material: Full-grain leather, rubber

A classic, and for good reason. L.L. Bean’s Bean boots have stood the test of time with their rich, waterproof full-grain leather upper, triple-stitched construction and rubber toe design to effectively keep out the elements. You’ll also recognize them for their rubber chain-tread bottom that enhances grip. Unlike many other rain boots on the market, these are built with a steel shank for extra stability on uneven terrain.

Upon first glance, these may not seem like the easiest boots to style, but we think they’d look great with jeans and a sweater or a knit dress, tights and some cozy socks peeking out from underneath.

What reviewers say: “A necessity in New England, my wife wears these throughout fall, winter and spring. They’re a classic and go great with almost any outfit. She loves her Bean Boots.”

This duck-boot-Chelsea-boot hybrid from Sperry offers the best of both worlds. In addition to all-black, the silhouette comes in versions with pops of color on the upper, outsole and added stripes on the goring for a preppy twist.

Best Platform Chelsea Rain Boots for Women

Best Overall Mid-Calf Rain Boots for Women

  • Size range: 6-11

  • Colorways: Over 30 color options

  • Material: Rubber

  • Shaft height: 11.25 inches

As its name suggests, Norty’s Hurricane Wellie is designed to tackle the roughest conditions. It’s made of super durable rubber (which one reviewer says didn’t even incur a “scratch” after a snake tried to bite through it) with an 11.25 inch-tall shaft featuring an adjustable strap for a customized fit. Meanwhile chunky lugs set atop a slight heel and platform provide comfort and keep you stable. Backed by over 4,400 four and five star reviews, these are also lined with cotton for a soft in-step feel and done in 14 different glossy shades and prints to suit any style.

What reviewers say: “Had these nearly a year and wear them constantly, when it’s rainy and muddy in the spring-summer-fall, for taking out the compost, gardening and even as snow boots for the last month or two in winter. Joules Molly Welly Rain Boots

Best Mid-Calf Rain Boots, Runner-Up

  • Size range: 5-11

  • Colorways: Over 35 color options

  • Material: Rubber

Don’t let cloudy skies get you down. Add a cherry accent to your look when the weather gets rough with Joules’ Molly Welly. The mid-calf silhouette comes in a range of fun prints, but we especially love it in this baby blue hue and daffodil print. You won’t have to worry about slipping and sliding in these thanks to a water-dispersing outsole underfoot. And, an adjustable strap at the top of the shaft helps you customize the fit to reduce the chance of water entering the boot.

What reviewers say: “I bought an amusingly weird pattern (homely dogs sporting winter attire) for gardening and yard work in the Pacific Northwest. The side walls are softer than other, cheaper rain boots I’ve had in the past; they crumple a bit as I squat and walk around which is very comfortable! I like the printed inner liner, the contrast stripe, and the bottom is sturdy and grippy. This is a nice quality boot and worth far more than their affordable price.”

Finished with contrast laces and details on the sole, the black and white pair will go with just about anything in your closet. And according to some reviewers, it’s even roomy enough to accommodate wide feet.

What reviewers say: “I really liked these a lot. I bought them for a backpacking trip through Europe in the spring because I expected lots of rain, but wanted to be able to use them as my tennis shoes, too. (Can’t pack very many shoe options on these things!) They worked great and were super cute. Even trekking through cow fields in Ireland they kept my feet clean and dry while everyone else left wet and stinky.”

What reviewers say: “These boots are awesome. Initially bought them for work shoes as I work in a restaurant and need non-slip shoes. They do the job for sure; could use a little more grip but our floors are just extra oily in the kitchens. For Halloween, I definitely needed a good pair of shoes, and these happen to be rain boots as well so even better.”

  • Material: Rubber sole, leather or suede upper

The cropped silhouette offers the ultimate trifecta of performance, comfort and style. It features a waterproof full-grain leather, shock-absorbing EVA footbed and covered, molded PU wedge that not only provides a sleek boost of height but also cushions your every step.  The boot is topped off with a grippy and eye-catching jagged outsole, which the brand has become known for, and side zippers so you can easily tuck the hem of your skinny jeans into them. Podiatrist Tips for Shopping for Women’s Rain Boots

When it’s time to start shopping for your rain boots, New York-based podiatrist Dr. Miguel Cunha urges shoppers to keep the fit and shape top of mind.

  • Consider the arch support: Look for tech-forward options with arch support and anatomically contoured footbeds to stave off aches and pains associated with common foot issues like plantar fasciitis and high arches, or look for pairs with ample cushioning to support flat feet. Alternatively, you can add an insole inside your boot to address your specific foot needs (since rain boots tend to be roomier than most everyday boot styles, most can accommodate orthotics).

  • Consider a heel: Wearing completely flat rain boots allows our foot to collapse, affecting our gait and posture, which can lead to a tremendous amount of stress placed not only on the foot but on the rest of the body like the knees and spine,” Dr. Cunha explains. “Our feet naturally pronate during the gait cycle; however, when we wear completely flat shoes, we pronate for a longer period of time, which then alters the biomechanics and distribution of pressure and weight across the foot. This imbalance may increase the progression of underlying foot deformities, such as bunions and hammertoes, and lead to painful conditions associated with excessive pronation, such as arch and heel pain, shin splints, posterior tibial tendonitis, and Achilles tendonitis.” Therefore Dr. Cunha suggests looking for a style with a little bit of lift — specifically, a heel that’s 0.75 inches tall or lower — is actually preferred. This low heel drop can relieve foot stress, especially for those with tendonitis.

  • Consider your foot condition/s: To help prevent and soothe pain associated with said bunions and hammertoes, Dr. Cunha says the best rain boots for women should have wide toe boxes to allow plenty of room for feet to splay. If you deal with arch pain or heel pain, opt for pairs that don’t easily bend in the mid-arch. “This will provide more shock absorption and, in turn, will result in less pain,” says Dr. Cunha.

What to Look For in the Best Rain Boots for Women

  • Waterproof materials: In order to keep feet dry, most rain boots are crafted from synthetic or real rubber, each of which have their benefits. Synthetic rubber like PVC tends to be lighter weight, however real rubber is more sustainable as it comes from plants rather than plastic, and may be more durable in the long run. Some boots feature a combination of rubber and neoprene or waterproof leather, or are made entirely of the latter for a slightly elevated aesthetic. Be on the lookout for any styles labeled as “water-resistant,” as these won’t work for keeping feet dry in downpours and truly wet conditions.

  • Traction Outsoles: Because you’ll likely be using your rain boots when the ground is slick and wet (or even snowy, in some cases), the pairs you choose should have ample traction. Look for styles with lugged soles or special slip-resistant tech (like Sperry’s Wave-Siping design) for optimal grip. If you plan to work in them, choose pairs with extra-deep indentations underfoot, which may also be self-cleaning for easy maintenance.

  • Insulation: Anyone who plans to wear their rain boots in super cold conditions should opt for a pair featuring insulation (many designs include lightweight tech like 3M Thinsulate or Primaloft, but some brands like Bogs have their own proprietary versions). In effect, some insulated rain boots can keep feet warm in temperatures as cold as -40 degrees Fahrenheit. Since rain boots typically feature a roomier silhouette, insulated styles also keep out the cold and wet elements entirely by way of tight-fitting neoprene shafts or adjustable closures at the hem.

  • Sizing: In terms of sizing, keep in mind that rain boots don’t typically come in half sizes. If you’re in between sizes, it’s best to go for the next size up to prevent any uncomfortable rubbing or chafing. To better help determine your perfect fit, consider heading to your local shoe store to have your feet measured.

The Different Types of Rain Boots for Women

  • Tall Rubber Boots: When most people think of rain boots they think of classic tall rubber boots that take up a majority of the leg. Typically these knee-high styles are made entirely of rubber which helps the feet and legs to stay warm and dry.

  • Ankle Rain Boots: Ankle-length silhouettes that are perfect for anyone who like a more inconspicuous weatherproof boot. These come in a range of materials and may even feature block or wedge heels for stylish support.

  • Mid-Calf Rain Boots: A mid-calf rain boot is a nice hybrid between a tall and ankle rain boot. They’re best for people who live in areas where dogging puddles is a bit difficult. The best part of this style of rain boot is that they’re versatile and pair wonderfully with so many different bottoms.

  • Chelsea Rain Boots: Like everyday Chelsea boot styles, these are defined by their side elastic goring for easy on and off access. However, what makes them different from the classic leather design is that Chelsea rain boots are made with waterproof materials.

  • Work Rain Boots: Designed to be used in the muckiest, wettest conditions, these are great for activities like gardening or barn work. As such, they often include enhanced comfort and support features like waterproof insulation, deep lug soles for traction and cushioned footbeds to ward off foot fatigue for hours spent on your feet. Some styles also include chemical-resistant outsoles for certain working conditions as well as pull handles on the shaft so you can easily remove them and leave them outside to avoid tracking any messes inside your home.

  • Duck boots: Originally created as work boots by L.L. Bean over 100 years ago, the duck boot style has been adopted by various brands over the years and is worn today in some fashion circles. The unique look is defined by a rubber sole and leather upper, crafted to keep toes dry and be super durable.

  • Hiker-Style Rain Boots: If you’re not into the traditional rain boot look, waterproof hiking-inspired boots are a perfect option. They offer the look of trail-ready pairs, complete with features like D-ring eyelets, in slightly sleeker constructions that fit right into current street style trends.

  • Sneaker Rain Boots: These look like classic lace-up kicks, but are done in all-over rubber or waterproof materials with anti-slip soles so they can handle wet days. What’s great about these is that since they do have laces, you can better customize the fit.

Women’s Rain Boots for Different Foot Types and Conditions

You should also choose a rain boot depending on your foot type or any conditions you suffer from. Experts suggests the following types of rain boots for women:

Women’s Rain Boots for Flat Feet

Anyone suffering from flat feet should look for wider-lasted shoes, “which means they shouldn’t have an hourglass shape on the bottom,” says Dr. Fishkin. “Instead, they should have a straight-across design underfoot.” These types of shoes offer more space around the forefoot and ball of the foot. Additionally, since people with flat feet tend to overpronate (meaning their feet roll inward as they walk), he suggests looking for shoes that provide enhanced stability and motion control.

Women’s Rain Boots for Plantar Fasciitis

Plantar fasciitis, a common inflammatory foot condition resulting in stabbing pain in the bottom of one or both feet, can result from wearing the wrong shoes. However, those who suffer from the condition need to select footwear carefully, says Mike Rushton, DPM, co-founder and medical director of Forward Motion Orthotics in St. George, Utah. He suggests looking for a neutral supportive shoe, which will depend on your foot type. Those with tight, stiff feet, will benefit from shoes with excellent structure and cushioning, but not that are “so soft you’re not finding the ground,” Dr. Rushton says. Anyone with flexible feet should focus on stability in the form of arch support, which will help increase the arch for those with flat feet and encourage high arches to drop to a more neutral position.

Women’s Rain Boots for High Arches

Those with high arches or who need extra arch support should look for shoes with built-in, well-padded and shock-absorbing insoles. “High-arched feet are best treated with supportive, softer and more flexible, lightweight types of soles to accommodate the high arch,” says New York-based podiatrist and Vionic Innovation Lab member, Dr. Jackie Sutera. “Avoid rigid, stiff and thin flat shoes. The purpose of insoles and orthotics for those with high-arched feet is to accommodate, absorb shock and cushion.”

Dr. Emily Splichal, a podiatrist and founder of the performance-driven accessories line Naboso, adds that choosing a shoe with a slight heel-toe drop (the difference between how high the shoe is in the heel versus the forefoot) can minimize impact forces and ankle stress. Dr. Sutera also points out that those with high arches also tend to supinate, meaning their weight tends to roll to the outside edge of their feet with each step, so heel counters should be considered. “Heel counters add stability and allow the rearfoot/heel to stay more neutral by blocking pronation (your ankle or arch rolling inward) and supination,” she says.

Women’s Rain Shoes for Ankle Pain or Weakness

If you suffer from ankle pain or weakness, ankle support should be a top priority. “High-top shoes are great for additional structure and support to prevent ankle injury,” says Dr. Dan Geller, a board-certified foot and ankle surgeon and advisor for Kane Footwear. “Running shoes may not always be the best for folks with weak ankles as some can actually roll you out.” Those who suffer from ankle pain or injuries should always consult a doctor first but generally, look for “a stable wide platform and deep heel cup to stabilize the foot and ankle better.”

Women’s Rain Shoes for Knee Pain

While shoes are not going to fix knee pain, the right pair may help alleviate or at least avoid aggravating the pain by getting your foot into proper alignment, offering joint support, and diffusing pressure away from the knee, explains Dr. Mark Mendeszoon, a podiatrist and owner of Achilles Running Shop in Pennsylvania. “Just as folks may need eyeglasses to help accommodate with vision, properly selected shoes can accommodate particular foot problems,” Dr. Mendeszoon says. However, there isn’t a one-size-fits-all shoe for those suffering from knee pain. He recommends visiting a running store where someone can evaluate your specific pains and issues to find you a proper shoe and also taking into consideration any other foot or health conditions you have.

Women’s Rain  Shoes for Back Pain

Similar to those suffering from knee pain, what to look for in a shoe if you have back pain will depend on the source of the pain and also the activity you need them for, says Dr. Mendeszoon. If you get sore after tough workouts or stand on your feet all day (we’re looking at you, nurses), consider investing in a shoe with shock absorption and strategic cushioning — possibly even labeled as orthopedic shoes — which will help relieve direct pressure to your pain points. “Someone with back pain is going to want a shoe that has enough support but with proper cushioning, too,” Dr. Mendeszoon adds. “You want a shoe that doesn’t have a significant heel drop [aka one with an even amount of cushioning from heel to toe] and fits well both in length and width, since achieving proper foot alignment helps prevent all kinds of aches and pains, including in your back.”

Women’s Rain Boots for Bunions

Dr. Glenn Davison, owner of Advanced Podiatry in New York City and New Jersey and a Fellow in the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons, emphasizes the importance of finding footwear that stabilizes the foot into the ideal neutral position, where weight is evenly distributed across the foot, for anyone with bunions. Boots with heels are generally a no-no, Davison adds. “A good corrective shoe will stabilize the foot,” he advises, suggesting looking for those that offer arch support, proper cushioning and a wide shoe fit and a roomy toe box. To avoid painful friction, stay away from boots that have straight or narrow toe beds.

Women’s Rain Shoes for Diabetics

Dr. Rushton explains that there are two primary ways that diabetes affects feet. One is neuropathy, in which people experience anything from “odd sensations in the feet, all the way to no sensation in the feet,” or burning, stinging, or cold sensations. The other is “losing protective threshold,” Dr. Rushton says, which could result in an identified injury, eventually manifesting into more severe damage. Dr. Rushton suggests wide-fitting diabetic shoes with “plenty of depth,” so rubbing and chafing that can lead to greater sores and injuries will be avoided. Wide toe boxes and soft shoe interiors and linings are also essential.

Women’s Rain Shoes for Heel Spurs

Heel spurs, “a growth of bone on the bottom of your heel,” per Dr. Rushton, grow in the contour of your feet. “If your foot doesn’t have adequate padding beneath it, as you roll forward, you’re more likely to pinch between the bottom of the foot and the ground,” Dr. Rushton says. A cushioned heel and anatomical arch support will help promote healthy foot alignment, so the entire foot will absorb the impact of every step rather than just the heel.

Women’s Rain Shoes for Wide Feet

According to Dr. Bruce Pinker, a board-certified podiatrist and foot surgeon of Progressive Foot Care in New York state, if you feel pressure on the sides of your feet while wearing boots, then you likely have wide feet. Dr. Pinker suggests purchasing shoes that come in wide sizes. “The width should be snug, but not tight,” he says, while Dr. Fishkin also stresses there should be 3/8 of an inch of space between your longest toe and the front of the shoe. “The forefoot of a pair of shoes should have ample room for toes,” he says, advising you to wiggle your toes when your try on shoes. If your toes feel confined, the shoes are too tight. “They shouldn’t feel like they’re pinching or squeezing the feet adversely.”

The Difference Between Waterproof and Water-Resistant Rain Boots

When shopping for the best rain boots for women, there are many important factors to consider, like the difference between waterproof and water-resistant rain boots. The main difference between the two terms is that waterproof materials are unaffected by water, whereas water-resistant materials resist moisture to a certain degree.

Water-resistant boots are meant to be worn outdoors in mild to moderate rainfall. They typically have thick rubber outsoles and leather, suede, faux leather, or canvas uppers, which are treated to repel water and prevent water penetration. On the other hand, a waterproof boot can be submerged without water getting inside. These kinds of boots are the ideal type for wet weather.
