Lil Nas X, is no stranger to confused fans.

Whether he’s crashing weddings or sharing photos of unusual bath time meals, the “Old Town Road” singer has long used social media to interact with his fans in surprising, yet comical, ways.

The same was true on May 20, when the 21-year-old took Twitter users on an emotional roller coaster ride with a fake “$100 giveaway.”

“FEELING GENEROUS,” he tweeted. “SENDING EVERYBODY WHO REPLIES TO THIS $100.”

As it turned out, Lil Nas X wasn’t lying about anything, and maybe he would have given some money away — if only his fans could respond to the tweet.

However, thanks to a new Twitter feature allowing users to limit who replies to their tweets, no one could respond to Lil Nas X’s message.

The feature is currently being tested with a select set of users, according to Mashable, and it appears as though Lil Nas X was among that select group.

He wasted no time in giving the feature a test drive either, sending out his tweet within hours of the test’s rollout. As result, thousands of fans seemingly began attempting to reply, airing out their frustration in separate tweets that, of course, could not actually respond directly to Lil Nas X.

“Im so broke man I really got my hopes up,” one Twitter user wrote.

“What is this witchcraft,” another asked.

“Literally i was ready to cash out,” another added.

Lil Nas X later followed up with a more sincere message, thanking his fans for their support and saying he loved them. Additionally, he wrote that he was “working hard” on a new album.

“To all of my fans who are still with me i am beyond thankful for you & never want you to forget that,” the singer added.
