Dog with only two right legs defies the odds and learns to walk

Deuce, a three-year-old Kentucky brown dog, is beating the odds.

When rescuers found Deuce abandoned in a ditch he had broken and infected limbs, which led veterinarians to amputate his two left legs, according to Metro.

But since the operation, Deuce has learned to walk on just his two right legs.

Domenick Scudera, a 55-year-old Pennsylvania college professor, adopted Deuce. Scudera has two other dogs, also with two legs each: Cyrus, a 10-year-old terrier mix, was born without front legs, and Lucky, a six-year-old Baladi, who lost his legs during an accident.

“Deuce is completely mobile and doesn’t need any extra help at all — he is amazing,” Scudera said according to Metro. “He defies logic. Although he only has legs on the right side, he is very strong and stable and can walk and run just as steadily as any other dog with four legs. Deuce doesn’t use a wheelchair. It is incredible that he is as agile and balanced as he is without one.”

The dog’s fairytale story gets even better. Deuce and his two dog “brothers,” volunteer as children’s therapy dogs at Children’s Hospital Philadelphia and Bryn Mawr Rehab Hospital.

“They are symbols that tough times can be overcome and that you can thrive on the other side of adversity,” Scudera said. “I know that they make people feel good and that they are very inspiring, so I am happy to be able to share them with the people I meet and with the people that follow them on social media.”

The professor runs a dedicated Instagram page called “2legdogs” where followers can keep up with the trio.

“Disabled animals are not always easy to place, and I am happy to be able to provide a loving home for them,” he said. “They have completely changed my life for the better. They mean the world to me.”
