2018 NFL draft: Mo Hurst finally come off the board, taken No. 140 by Oakland

Defensive tackle Maurice Hurst finally got the phone call that he’d been drafted, taken at No. 140 overall by the Oakland Raiders.

The 6-foot-1, 292 pound Hurst had a standout career at Michigan, named an All-American last fall by every major outlet, but his chances of being drafted in the opening rounds took a big hit when he was sent home from the NFL scouting combine after an EKG showed he has a heart condition.

The Raiders traded up to take Hurst, sending picks 159 and 185 to the Indianapolis Colts to move into the 140th slot and select Hurst.

But Hurst revealed shortly after the combine that the EKG irregularities weren’t new to him, telling the Detroit Free Press that an EKG shortly after he arrived on campus at Michigan showed a heart issue, though he declined to specify what it is.

Back then, Hurst missed a week of football activities and then was cleared to return.

The son of former New England Patriots defensive back Maurice Hurst (though he was raised by his mother, Nicole Page), Hurst Jr. thrives off a high motor and quickness, both of which helped him total 24.5 tackles for loss in his final two seasons with the Wolverines.
