2018 Chevy Camaro Hot Wheels Edition debuts ahead of SEMA

2018 marks the 50th anniversary of Hot Wheels. Chevrolet and the miniature toy car company have been teaming up for years. In fact, the Custom Camaro was the first car Hot Wheels ever produced. The full-size 2018 Chevy Camaro Hot Wheels Edition gets a little something extra to celebrate: a Hot Wheel COPO Camaro. Both the standard and COPO Camaros are done up in all the typical Hot Wheels garb, including bright orange paint and a unique set of wheels. If you want one, you'd better hit the dealer soon. Production is limited on both models.

The standard car is limited to just 2,500 units. The Hot Wheels package is a $4,995 option on 2LT and 2SS coupes and convertibles. All are painted in Crush orange paint and feature a black and orange interior. The Crush paint is very similar to the Hugger Orange on 1969 Camaros. The cars also get two grey and white stripes straight down the middle, grey ground effects, grey wheels and Hot Wheels badges on the fenders. Dark taillights and black bowtie emblems help complete the orange contrast.
In addition to the orange and black upholstery, the Hot Wheels package adds orange knee pads, orange seat belts, embossed headrests and Hot Wheels badging on the steering wheel and door sills.



The new Hot Wheels Edition COPO Camaro is arguably the closest thing to a real-life Hot Wheels car Chevy has built yet. Because it's a factory drag car, the fat Hoosier tires and the big bulge in the hood that hides a supercharger give it an almost cartoonish appearance. Slapping big Hot Wheels decals on the side adds to the looks. Although the concept is painted in a metallic orange, the final product will have the same Crush color as the standard cars.

Only 69 COPO Camaros will be built for 2018. That includes non-Hot Wheels editions, too. The car comes standard with a naturally aspirated 302-cubic-inch Gen V Small Block V8. It's based on the LT1 in the Camaro SS but has been fitted with a number of high-strength parts. A naturally aspirated 427-cubic-inch V8 and a supercharged 350-cubic-inch V8 are optional. The latter is good for 8-second quarter miles with trap speeds nearing 160 mph. All COPOs have a SFI-approved ATI TH400 three-speed automatic transmission and a solid rear axle. Like other COPO Camaros, the car is set up for the NHRA's Stock Eliminator class.
