A birthday is nothing without the pleasure of opening a box or two...hundred. In celebration of founder Louis Vuitton's 200th birthday, the luxury house tapped 200 visionaries, ranging from designers like Peter Marino, Marc Jacobs, and Kim Jones, to others like astrologist Susan Miller, K-Pop band BTS, Gloria Steinem, and Drake, to create their own version of the Louis Vuitton trunk.

According to Faye Mcleod, LV's visual image director, interpreting the founder's vision leads much of her creative work in conjuring window displays for the brand. Vuitton didn't leave much behind beyond an impeccable reputation for inventing the best trunks in 19th-century Paris. His son, Georges, expanded the brand and coined its signature monogram. "With Georges, we’ve got so much,” McLeod told the New York Times. “But with Louis, we’ve kind of got trunks. That’s why we based a lot of the work around the trunks, because it’s what we’ve got in the archive. It felt the right thing to do.”

The artists were given free reign to create their trunks, with the only firm parameter being that they generally adhere to the dimensions of LV's original trunk.

"The creativity and imagination displayed in their work took our breath away," Mcleod told T&C. Starting August 4, the trunks will be on display at store windows around the world for 100 days, with a pixelated portrait of Louis Vuitton himself (above image) gracing the Fifth Avenue storefront. "We hope that Mssr Louis Vuitton would be very proud," says Mcleod.
