We all love watching the newest films in theaters, and even finding an old classic we've never seen before when browsing through Netflix, Hulu, or any other streaming service we have at our disposal these days (after all, you're not going to find a new favorite by just rewatching Iron Man over and over again). But no one is ever that strict, and most people have a few comforting favorites in their back pocket that they love to go back to whenever that choice starts to feel a little bit tricky.
There's just something that feels right when you're not seeing a movie for the first time, but making new observations about a story, or laughing at that funny scene, joke, or line that you know is coming, and still just gets you anyway. Whether it's a thrilling action flick or a scary zombie movie, there are some films that just have more inherent rewatchability than others. Some users on Reddit decided to debate which flicks out there are the most rewatchable, and their picks are actually pretty convincing. Here are the best of the bunch.
"Same here! Growing up in North NJ in an Italian American family, this movie just hits home for me."
Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade
"I loved the first two but the Last Crusade was the icing on the cake. The Crystal Skull, in my opinion, doesn't exist. The Last Crusade has a great story, great action, and great continuing character arcs sprinkled and balanced perfectly throughout the movie. Every time I watch, I still find something new that just makes this movie my favorite of all time!"
"I quote that s*** literally everyday."
10 Things I Hate About You
"I always do a double feature with She's All That. Don't ask me why, to me they just fit two sides of the same narrative. Plus, both have some of the most charismatic casts out there."
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse
"I was floored the first time I saw it. I had no idea it was going to be as good as it was. It’s one of the very few films that I thought was elevated by 3D. It also has one of my top-five favorite jokes in a film: 'Let me tell you the good news: We don’t need the monitor.'"
"Perfect pacing, nothing extra."
The Shawshank Redemption
"I've lost count of how many times I've seen it. It's a work of art"
"I can probably quote it from memory now but haven’t grown tired of it yet."
"It’s top tier for me, and I got so into it I read the book."
Scott Pilgrim vs. the World
"Hilarious, well shot, plenty of symbolism to keep an eye out for, memorable characters, fun to look at stylistic choices, quotable, well paced, and just a real f***ing treat to watch."
Ferris Bueller's Day Off
"Just absolutely perfect. Every time I watch it, it gets even better."
Forgetting Sarah Marshall
"It’s got some top notch side characters, it’s not too long and if genuinely makes me laugh every time I watch it. For me, it’s just one of those films that’s easy to watch."
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
"All the others have boring parts here or there, but not the third one."
The Star Wars Trilogy
"It's just perfect in every way."
"The music, the acting, the writing... It's just perfect for me."
"It's THE millennial coming-of-age movie. The Zoomers are gonna have theirs sometime soon."
Lord of the Rings
"I rewatch LOTR once a year and I've never once gotten tired of it. It really feels like going on an adventure with old friends. The story, world and characters just completely immerse you into it."
"What a gorgeous and perfectly executed film."
O Brother, Where Art Thou?
"The whole thing is great but I sometimes go back and just watch the soggy bottom boys performance at that political rally. That song never gets old!"
"You really cant be bored watching Shrek."
