The 2 Most Candid Photos Ever Taken of the Royal Family, According to Photographer Samir Hussein

Samir Hussein has taken countless photos of the royal family, including Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s iconic rain photo. And now, the photographer is sharing never-before-heard stories about two of his all-time favorite pics.

Hussein appeared on a recent episode of the Royally Obsessed podcast, where he chatted with hosts Rachel Bowie and Roberta Fiorito about the most candid photos he’s ever taken. He kicked things off by discussing one picture of Kate Middleton that was captured back in 2017 during the royal tour of India and Bhutan.

“One I really like is a picture of Kate in Bhutan. She was wearing very traditional clothing, and she had a go at bow and arrows,” he explained. “She had just borrowed an arrow that came really, really close to us photographers, and she just sort of let out this huge laugh looking straight at the camera towards me.”

Hussein gushed over the result, adding, “It was a really nice, natural moment. Just really spontaneous.”

The photographer also revealed that he’s “very fond” of a recent photo of Prince Harry and Markle. “It was in Australia on Bondi Beach,” he said. “They were barefoot, I was shooting at the pool for that, so I was able to follow them around. And they met a group of surfers, and they were discussing mental health.”

Hussein described the moments that led to the now-iconic photo. “It was so natural, and they looked really relaxed,” he continued. “It was just a moment where they put their arm around each other and just turned to each other and smiled.”

Oh, to be a fly on the wall during these candid moments.
