October is only two months away (crazy, right), and it's one of the most popular months to get married. That being said, you probs have a lot of wedding invitations crowding your fridge. Translation? It's party time—and time to find the most comfortable wedding shoes to match your fab fall wedding guest dresses.
Sure, you could kick your shoes off at a more casual wedding, but you'll score major style (and safety) points if you have a solid pair of heels or flats that are just as comfortable as they are chic—whether you're the bride or the mother of the bride. What to look for? Aesthetic podiatrist Dr. Suzanne Levine, DPM, says that when purchasing a comfortable shoe for standing in, it should be something with breathable material that conforms to the foot and won’t create skin irritation.
Since every type of foot is different, you'll want to find a shoe that caters to your needs. Whether you have wide feet, narrow feet, or just need a low heel, see below for the 20 most comfortable wedding shoes of 2023, according to podiatrists and fashion editors.
Shuga Skin/Vanilla Heels
If you're headed to a Western wedding, these heels are perfect. They're simple yet stylish, touting a two-toned leather design adorned with subtle yet funky patterns on top. With their open back, you can easily slide them on and off, especially if you're hitting the dance floor a bit too hard. Planning to rock them at the afterparty? Team them up with some denim for a complete rodeo-inspired look.
Rave Review: "I saw my friend wear these on Insta and immediately texted her for the link," says WH associate e-commerce editor Lily Wohlner. "They're so cute paired with anything (I love them with denim), and I could see them being dressed up for a wedding. Once I find the right dress, I'm def wearing these to my next event."
If you've had your eyes on the Insta-famous (yet quite pricey!) Amina Muaddi Glass Heels for a while, but the thought of spending $1,140 on a pair of shoes is holding you back, your search ends here. These shoes not only look exactly like the OGs, but they're also the same height. If you don't want a four-inch heel, the same style also comes in a shorter height (2.75 inches).
Heading to an outdoor wedding? These translucent shoes feature a structural heel, so you don't have to worry about sinking into the dirt as you walk.
Rave Review: "I ordered several pairs that were exactly like these from different vendors. These were the only ones where the strap behind the heel was actually tight enough to stay on. Due to the pointed toe, I did have to go up half a size."
Sloane High Heel Sandals
These gorgeous cream heels are arguably some of the chicest on this list, and that's no surprise coming from Staud. Like many of the brand's shoes, these have an understated yet elevated feel that completes any dress you pair them with. They're not quite a kitten heel, but at 3.5 inches they give you just the right amount of lift.
Editor Review: "I've worn these out and about a few seprate times this summer, and I've felt like a million bucks every time I've slid them on," says WH associate e-commerce editor Lily Wohlner. "They pair well with everything, from long blue jeans to airy summer dresses, and they don't hurt my feet like a lot of non-platform heels tend to."
Another practically identical dupe, these heels from Vetaste replicate the Mach & Mach Strass Bow Double Ankle-Strap Pumps to a tee, except they're slightly lower for comfort. The Amazon version also comes in 13 different colors, so you can step a little outside the box with colors like pink and silver. Reviewers love them so much, they've garnered a solid 4.5 stars.
If you don't love the straps, they also come in an open-back version.
Rave Review: "I love how classy and feminine these shoes made me feel. I wore them on my wedding day and they were perfect! The heel height is a few inches, so it’s not quite a stiletto, but still a step above a kitten heel. The rhinestone detailing is done very well and they sparkle in the light. Definitely worth the purchase—I want another pair in a different color now."
Reyes Ballet Flats
If you have social media, you know that ballet flats are everywhere right now. So, if you don't want to be super tall on your wedding day or simply can't fathom the idea of while walking down the aisle in heels, these ivory ballet flats are exactly what you should go for. Plus, they look so elegant paired with a dress (I've also seen them worn with a matching cream suit).
Rave Review: "These are perfect—I wish I had them in every color! I also love how comfortable they are right out of the box."
Camellia Knotted Sandals
I constantly see friends and celebs rocking these shoes on Insta, but when I saw them with my own eyes, I understood the hype. These sandals look so soft and elegant, and they add a fun boost of texture to any look. If you don't love this specific style, they come in a bunch of different variations to choose from.
And, WH executive fashion director Kristin Saladino gives them her stamp of approval, too. "I'm obsessed with these shoes," she says. "I have them in gold and they are beyond comfortable and super cute."
Rave Review: "LOVE LOVE LOVE! I found my new heel height that's comfortable in addition to stylish. The color is dreamy and goes with so many colors, which makes it very versatile and worth the price point! I intend to order this shoe in another color very soon."
Crystal Embellished Pump
Not up for spending upwards of $1,000 on a pair of Manolo Blahnik pumps? No worries, we've got an alternative that you should def consider. Right now, they're on sale for just $188 (seriously, talk about getting your money's worth!). These dupes are available in five distinct colors, and we're in love with the Azure blue option if you're looking to incorporate "something blue" into your ensemble (and definitely not borrowed!).
Rave Review: "These shoes are exactly as pictured. They are a gorgeous color and the brooch on the toe is secure and as shown. They are comfortable and easy to walk in. I absolutely love them!"
Don't get me wrong—these heels are pretty high (four inches to be exact). However, what makes or breaks a high heel is comfort, and these pass the test. The block heel makes them suuuper easy to walk in, saving you from any awkward wobbles on the dance floor.
Rave Review: "I bought these in the brown suede and they are beautiful heels. However, I'd recommend going up a size. I always wear an 8.5, and these were way too small."
Arizona Big Buckle Slide Sandals
If you're keeping it extra casual at your wedding, Saladino recommends purchasing a pair of these white Arizona Birkenstocks, which have big silver buckles. Whether your setting is on the beach or in the middle of the woods, these will make you look effortlessly cool at the after party (even paired with your dress!).
Rave Review: "I'm in love with my new Birkenstocks! I got the cognac color and it's absolutely gorgeous. They are very true to size and very comfortable since day one. I can't wait to buy a pair of black ones."
Immie Platform Sandal
WH assistant fashion editor Rose Lauture says these platform sandals are the "most comfortable" heels she owns, and that's saying a lot coming from someone who has tried a lot of shoes. Some sizes of the silver color are sold out at the moment, but don't worry, the brand will be restocking soon. You can sign up for notifications to know when your size is back in stock (or take a look at the other colors!).
Rave Review: "I love these shoes. They look so good on, and they’re really comfortable. I’m not joking when I say I could probably run in these. They’re high, but the platform helps you feel stable. If they come out in a nude color (please make a nude color!), I’m getting them."
Another trend that's so in right now: slingback heels. These Guilhermina pair have an adorable square toe and, according to reviewers, they show a bit of toe cleavage, too. Plus, lovers of this style note that the strap doesn't sneak down your ankle with wear, which is a major plus.
Rave Review: "These are gorgeous. A few notes: I found the size chart to be wrong. I wear a 6 or 6.5 and the 36 fit my slightly wide feet. The size chart recommended a 37. They have a nice fit and a snug strap that did not fall down during a night out. These also show a bit of toe cleavage."
If you're on the hunt for a low pair of simple strappy heels for the warmer months, these will be your new go-to pair for any occasion. The square toe makes them look super angular and unique, and the thong strap between the toe is a welcome touch. According to reviews, these are super comfortable to walk in, thanks to the soft padded insole and anti-slip rubber outsole. Plus, the price is legit unbeatable.
Rave Review: "I ordered these as a last-minute thought, as I wanted cute sandal heels for spring and summer and didn't want to spend a fortune. For the price, these shoes are great. They are super comfy and they don’t cut or rub between the toes—a great shoe for every outfit and very versatile. They look super high-end. Would recommend."
Hazel Pointed Toe Pump
Forget the slingbacks or the mules—If you're after timeless simplicity for your wedding day, check out these Sam Edelman Pointed Toe Pumps. They come in so many different colors and fabrics to match the exact vibe you're going for. According to the brand, the shoe's new fit technology adds a padded sock to the insole, which makes these babies more comfortable than you could ever imagine.
Rave Review: "These are the perfect basic pump. They look great and feel great. Plus, they have classic lines! I have two other pairs of Hazels—they are much too good to have just one."
Kelsie Ankle Wrap Heeled Sandals
I love a chunky strap on a heel, and this satin one is everything I've been dreaming of. The bottom half of the shoe is super classic, but if you're showing some leg in your dress and want that va-va-voom, the ankle straps add that perfect oomph.
Rave Review: "Love these shoes! Color is exactly as pictured and they fit so comfortably. The ankle tie is so cute."
Estella Pointed Toe Slingback Pump
Sometimes, white isn't always the way to go when it comes to wedding shoes. If you want to add in a little 'something blue', these pointed-toe slingbacks are literally made for you. They have a gorgeous silver buckle at the toe (it's giving Gucci!) and a tapered heel to add that extra oomph to any of your wedding weekend looks. Although they're more than four inches, they're still super comfortable for those with narrow feet.
Editor Review: "I bought these for a wedding last year, and I wear them time and time again for fancier occasions," says WH associate e-commerce editor Lily Wohlner. "They go with everything, and despite the fact that they have no platform, they don't hurt my feet (which is major if you know me!)."
The Day Ballet Flat
Looking for a blend of casual and cute? Look no further than Everlane's The Day Ballet Flat. While certain styles might have limited sizing for now, options like the classic black are up for grabs. These flats slip on effortlessly and come with a smooth, comfortable fit from the get-go—no need to worry about any uncomfortable breaking-in phase.
Rave Review: "These shoes are comfortable out of the box and required no break in. I have a high instep and they were a tiny bit tight at first, but great after one wear. They look so cute with everything and I’ve had several compliments!"
Bri Black Lace
Opt for this pair of black lace slingbacks if you want a hot wedding shoe rather than a classic one (they also come in cream if that's more your style). Many reviewers say they're surprisingly comfortable, and, if you ask me, they're a solid dupe for the Dior Slingbacks.
Rave Review: "I have the black lace ones and they're so beautiful. They are elegant, feminine, sophisticated heels. I always get a lot of compliments when I wear them."
I recently saw a friend wearing these and loved how classic and sophisticated they looked. They don't have a super high heel (only two inches!), so if you're tall these could be a great choice. And the wide toe strap is perfect if you have wider feet; they won't feel too tight.
Rave Review: "After an exhaustive search, I bought these sandals for my son’s upcoming beach wedding. Finally, I found a stylish, comfortable champagne gold pair that fit perfectly. True to size."
Clear Chunky Block High Heels
These acrylic high heels match with any dress, and the see-through straps make it look like you're legit wearing nothing. I love how thick the heel is, making these shoes suitable for any kind of wedding.
Rave Review: "These are very cute heels. I love them—they are comfortable if you aren’t planning on walking too much. Just a heads up that they do run small!"
Chuck 70 Graphic Sneaker
Let's say you did end up buying a super uncomfortable wedding shoe for walking down the aisle. Don't worry, just buy a cute pair of sneaks to dance in for your afterparty. These are super understated and actually look super fun paired with a wedding dress. Now go and dance the night away!
Rave Review: "These are the perfect white shoe with a bit more fun flare! I normally wear an 8.5, but retired for an 8. They fit perfectly."
How our team chose the best comfortable wedding shoes
Our editors and writers have been to quite a few weddings, and being fashion gurus, we love a good nude heel. So, we tested a bunch of bestselling heels to the test over the last few months to see which really are the most comfortable pair to wear to a wedding. We tested shoes from well-known brands like Staud and Steve Madden,
plus several smaller under-the-radar manufacturers with great reviews on Amazon. We compared everything from style and comfort to heel height and color options. We also reached out to podiatrists to discover the best shoes for different types of feet. The list above includes our honest picks for the 20 most comfortable wedding shoes worth buying for your next event.
What shoes are good for a wedding?
Short answer: Comfort means different things for different people. "Comfort is subjective, so what is comfortable to one person may not be comfortable to the next," says functional podiatrist Dr. Emily Splichal, DPM. But, she says that those of you with flat feet, high arches, plantar fasciitis, or Achilles tendinitis may find flat shoes to be uncomfortable. So, you'll want to opt for something with a bit of a heel, especially for a wedding at which you may be wearing the shoes from a morning ceremony till a late night reception.
Which heels are the most comfortable?
Podiatrist Dr. Tim Oldani, DPM agrees with Splichal. He says you won't want a shoe that's completely flat, and that you'll also want avoid shoes that are too narrow—that's what can lead to bunions, hammertoes, blisters, and corns. The last box to tick on your comfy wedding shoe search? Oldani says to make sure your sandals or heels feature support in both the arch and ball of the foot. But, as Splichal said, comfort is totally subjective.
