What will Lawmen: Bass Reeves be about?

You've seen good Westerns before, we're sure of it. But just wait 'til you watch this new series surrounding the historically famous American lawman Bass Reeves. The show will follow Reeves as he makes it out of slavery in the 19th century, turning himself into the iconic U.S. Deputy Marshal. There will be lots of action, romance, and justice being served.

Is Lawmen: Bass Reeves based on a true story?

For the most part, yes! Bass Reeves was a real-life legendary lawman of the Wild West. The cowboy wasn't just a U.S. Deputy Marshal, but he was actually the first Black U.S. Marshal west of the Mississippi! He is known for making over 3,000 arrests without ever being injured. Reeves is also believed to be the inspiration behind the Lone Ranger. (How cool is that?!)

Is Lawmen: Bass Reeves part of Yellowstone?

While Taylor Sheridan is an executive producer on the series—and the show was originally deemed a Yellowstone prequel—this show will not follow any members of the Dutton family specifically. We shouldn't expect any mentions or appearances of the Duttons, as Lawmen: Bass Reeves will be following a true story, versus the fictional one that Yellowstone follows.

Where can I watch Lawmen: Bass Reeves?

Where did filming take place?

According to The Dallas Morning News, many scenes of Lawmen: Bass Reeves took place in North Texas, specifically Fort Worth, Glen Rose, Weatherford, Stephenville and Strawn.

Also, an Instagram post made by Yellowstone star Denim Richards shows numerous actors (including Oyelowo) at Bosque Ranch in Bosque County, Texas. The location was used for certain scenes in Yellowstone and 1883, so it seems likely that it will also be featured in Lawmen: Bass Reeves.
