18-Year-Old Wins Jackpot on First-Ever Lottery Purchase
The teenager's grandfather encouraged her to buy her first lottery ticket.
In Canada, an 18-year-old girl is enjoying extreme beginner's luck, winning a $48 million jackpot with the first lottery ticket she ever bought.
According to WSMV4 news channel, the young adult, whose name is Juliette Lamour, won the grand prize last month after her grandfather encouraged her to purchase her first lottery ticket for fun.
She is now the youngest person in Canada to win a lottery prize that large.
On Friday, Feb. 3, Lamour received her check and chatted with the crowd about the win.

After buying the ticket, Lamour continued her usual routine and went to work, where she later found out that she had won the lottery. She shared that her boss told her to go home, but her mother wanted her to complete the shift.
Lamour was also asked about what she plans to do with the money. She said she wants to follow her dreams of becoming a doctor and use the money to attend medical school.
She won the Lotto 6/49 in Canada, one of three national lottery games in the country. The other two are the Super-Loto and the Provincial.
In Canada, you must be 18 years old to buy a lottery ticket, just like in the United States, and there is a cap on how high the jackpot can be, with the maximum being $70 million.
Just this January, someone won the Mega Millions jackpot worth $1.348 billion in Maine, becoming the second biggest jackpot winnings in Mega Millions history. The top win was $1.537 million in South Carolina in late 2018.

On top of the Jan. 13 win, the jackpot was claimed three other times in the same month. This is the first time in Mega Millions history that four jackpots were won in a single month.
So far, 2023 has been a very fruitful year for the lottery in both the United States and Canada.
