I think we can all agree that the teen movie genre is great in almost every way. There are plenty of romantic plotlines, unforgettable soundtracks, and cheesy drama to keep anyone entertained. Warner Bros. / Via media.giphy.com
If I'm being honest though, the fashion is usually sub-par. And to prove it, here are 15 of my least favorite outfits that came from some popular teen movies. New Line Cinema / Via media.giphy.com
1. Bella's first-day-of-school jersey in Twilight I can't decide if this top was thrifted from a local bowling tournament or a diner employee's locker. At least it looks comfy.
Summit Entertainment 2. Monique's fruity ensemble from High School Musical 2 The rainbow-striped shirt layer and the chunky plastic accessories look more like leprechaun magnets than the makings of a casual game day outfit.
Disney 3. Benji's purple velvet blazer from Pitch Perfect I know Benji is a magician, but this feels a little too on-brand.
Universal Pictures 4. Lara Jean's mixed aesthetic outfit from To All The Boys I've Loved Before . There's just way too much going on here — a Victorian lace top, bolo tie, flannel, skater skirt, nylons AND slippers??? Pick one aesthetic and go with it, LJ!
Netflix 5. Warner's rich kid quarter zip in Legally Blonde Nothing screams stiff more than a striped quarter zip sweater ON TOP of a collared dress shirt. This look belongs on a 55-year-old venture capitalist who's vacationing at his fourth home in the Hamptons.
MGM Distribution Co. 6. Tess's silk pants in Camp Rock In 2008, it was perfectly acceptable to wear a v-neck dress with leggings, but pairing it with silk PJ pants??? Let's say these ARE her pajamas — why is she wearing that giant pendant necklace?? I'm so confused.
Disney 7. Audrey's Limited Too nightmare from Radio Rebel I don't even know what to say about this one. All I know is that her pink hair extensions are the least distressing part of this whole thing.
Disney 8. Lana's clown skirt from The Princess Diaries I LOVE slip skirts, but this low-rise, clown print slip skirt is just not working. Don't even get me started on that scratchy turtleneck. I will give Lana points for the butterfly clips though — those are cute!
Disney 9. Sierra's Old Navy kids shirt from Sierra Burgess Is a Loser I don't know why Sierra thought it would be a good idea to wear a children's touch-and-feel poodle shirt to a high school party, but the good news is denim jackets really do heal all wounds.
Netflix 10. Kadee's 55-foot long shirt in Rags This is the most disproportionate outfit I've ever seen. Why is the shirt soooo long and why are the skirt and jacket soooo tiny! I need balance!!
Nickelodeon 11. Anna's disjointed emo look from Freaky Friday It's the low-rise cargo pants, chunky highlights, and dog collar for me. I have nothing against emo aesthetic, but this outfit looks extremely uncomfortable. And the belt isn't even holding anything up??
Disney 12. Carter's oversized, monochrome disaster in A Cinderella Story This baggy nightmare was made even worse with the addition of plastic chains, wrist sweatbands, and a beret. I'm really glad Carter decided to change before getting to school.
Warner Bros. Pictures 13. Margo's shapeless eyelet top in Paper Towns This outfit isn't as bad as the others on this list, but it's not great. Margo's wrinkly, shapeless top looks like it got caught in the dryer and yanked out right before she had to head to school.
20th Century Fox 14. Bennett's grandma cardigan in Candy Jar This is the most obnoxious outfit I've ever seen. Like dude, pop a button on your polo and act your age. The worst part of the whole thing, though, is the knit cardigan on top. It really screams "middle-aged mom" and doesn't fit the rich sailor look Bennett is going for.
Netflix 15. And finally, Carmen's Pepto Bismol jeans in The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants Even for the early 2000s, this outfit is A LOT. Why did they put zero effort into coordinating Carmen's top with her bottoms? She looks like a painted Easter egg gone wrong.
