Right now, when the days suddenly seem a little bit shorter and you start to see mentions of pumpkin spice everything, manicures will begin to shift from whites and brights to neutrals and earth tones. And though September 23 is technically the first day of autumn, as soon as the harvest festivals start and the stylish coats hit store racks, we're ready to change up our manicures, too.
"For fall 2023, trending shades include warm and rich shades that reflect the cozy and vibrant mood of the season," says professional nail artist and manicurist Julie Kandalec. Shades like: Blue, sage, olive, berry and a comeback of grey, says celebrity nail artist Elle Gerstein.
Nail designs are still pervasive, too. This fall, "metallics and chrome will take the lead, giving a 3D effect," says Kandalec. We'll also see creative variations on the French manicure—aka Frenchie, she adds. Peep the look in colors like neon and even designs like tortoise shell.
Whether your go-to is a quick at-home mani (yes, press-ons and nail stickers totally count!) or a more comprehensive salon trip to swap out your nail art, these are the popular hues to try as fall 2023 ramps up.
