We asked the BuzzFeed Community to tell us which popular movies from 2021 they actually hated. Here's what they said: 1. Black Widow "Black Widow was not good. It felt like so many scenes were unnecessary and the major fight scenes were lame. The best part was Florence Pugh."
—gigimomster
Marvel Studios / Everett Collection 2. Dune "Let's be real: Dune was a clusterfuck of a movie. It made no sense and we were TOTALLY Zendaya-baited."
—laidedahunsi
Warner Bros. / Everett Collection 3. Eternals "I didn’t particularly like Eternals . It tried to squeeze a huge amount of plot into a small amount of time. Maybe if it had been a TV series it would have worked better. But mostly it was just meh."
—lisalu779
Marvel Studios / Everett Collection 4. Home Sweet Home Alone "I gave it a try, but I didn't like it. They gave the story a twist by having sympathetic 'bad' guys, and (I don't know if they did it on purpose) an unlikable main character. It totally defeats the purpose of the franchise."
—elise1617
Disney+ / Everett Collection 5. To All The Boys: Always and Forever "Everything felt forced and overacted, and I was honestly waiting for John Ambrose to show up."
—Kayla Yandoli
Netflix / Everett Collection 6. Venom: Let There Be Carnage "The film that disappointed me the most was Venom: Let There Be Carnage . All the best scenes from the movie were shown in the trailer. I expected more from it and it just felt rushed. It's a shame. The only saving grace from the film was the post-credit scene."
—sarahloupeers
Sony / Marvel / Everett Collection 7. No Time to Die "I waited over a year to see a movie in a theater and was beyond disappointed. Without spoilers, they tried to 'reinvent' James Bond and changed so many things about the character, even the supporting characters. The movie became unrecognizable as a Bond movie. If you're a fan of classic Bond movies, get ready for them to throw everything you liked about James Bond into the trash."
—youngac23
MGM / Everett Collection 8. Encanto "The music and the animation were great, but the whole story about being stuck in the house really made it boring. I was also expecting way more out of Bruno, but he just ended up being used as comic relief."
—zoecatherinegrant
Disney / Pixar 9. Cruella "I was pretty disappointed by Cruella . I love Emma Stone, the original 101 Dalmatians, as well as the Glenn Close version. In retrospect, I don't think Cruella is the kind of villain who can get a backstory without ruining the character."
—dexm1981
Disney / Everett Collection 10. Halloween Kills Universal / Everett Collection 11. The Guilty "I love Jake Gyllenhaal – I genuinely think he's an incredible actor and deserves a lot more credit – but The Guilty turned into an entirely different (and worse) movie than what was promoted in the trailer. Instead of a crime drama about a 911 operator's distressing call, the real plot was about a cop who killed someone while on the job and tried to cover it up. The ending ultimately treats the cop as a hero for finally wanting to come clean and reveal the truth about what really happened, which is super upsetting, and there was also a plotline about how people struggling with mental illness are 'dangerous,' so, yeah, pass.
—Spencer Althouse
Netflix 12. The Suicide Squad "I didn't like The Suicide Squad . Sure it was different and better than the 2016 version, but I still believe it could have been better."
—viqui543
Warner Bros. / Everett Collection 13. Army of the Dead "I expected it to be a fun zombie action film...it somewhat was. There were quite a few plot holes that I couldn't ignore, which spoiled the fun. There were three characters, especially a certain 'feisty' member, that were so irritating that I rooted for zombies to kill them."
—superkay
Netflix 14. Finch "I did not like Finch . The plot was endearing and interesting. I liked the robot named Jeff and the dog too. But I felt like Tom Hanks' character kept bullying Jeff and getting upset with him for things he clearly didn't understand — since he was brought to life, like, yesterday. He was somewhat childlike in his innocence and naivety. Yes, Jeff did make mistakes but watching Finch get upset with Jeff constantly made me feel unsympathetic towards Finch, even though he was Tom Hanks."
—samanthajgerber
Apple TV+ 15. And finally, Cinderella "This movie was some of the dumbest trash I've ever seen. Even Billy Porter and Idina Menzel couldn't save it. And, as a feminist, I say with all sincerity that movies need to stop beating us over the head with #GirlBoss stuff. Stop patronizing us, assholes. Cinderella was way too over the top."
