The 14 Most Wish-listed New Vacation Rentals on Airbnb — Including an 'Invisible House' in California and a Nova Scotia Tree House

The beauty of Airbnb is that it’s an ever-changing platform: All it takes is one host adding a new listing for your dream vacation rental to pop up.
That’s why last November, as part of its winter release, the platform introduced six new categories, including one called “New.” To qualify for that tab, listings must have gone up within the last 10 weeks, which means it’s a constantly evolving category, always offering fresh options.
Since timing is the only factor, those new rentals can run the gamut from dazzling mirrored homes in the desert to historic mills with private lakes. Earlier this month, the company released some of its most wish-listed new properties that showed up on Airbnb between Nov. 16, 2022, and Jan. 8, 2023.

Among the most spectacular is the Invisible House in California’s Joshua Tree, so much so that even Airbnb CEO Brian Chesky called it "a piece of modern art” and “one of the most spectacular homes in the world on all of Airbnb.” The 5,500-square-foot four-bedroom, five-bath reflective desert home was designed by veteran film producer Chris Hanley and has been a popular backdrop for TV shows and music videos, as it sits on 90 acres of private space right near Joshua Tree National Park.
A neighboring Joshua Tree home also made the list, the JT Luxury Villa, with two bedrooms, two baths, and soothingly exquisite decor all around. Just five minutes from the park entrance, the home features an outdoor shower, pool, hot tub, and cactus garden — and if you listen carefully, you can even hear coyotes howling from the distant mountains.

Also among the most impressive is Canada’s Shackup Tower in Broad Cove, Nova Scotia, which sits 30 feet in the air — and requires walking up four sets of stairs to gain entry. But the reward is a 360-degree view on an ocean hillside with views of Cape La Have. On the other end of the scale is a French 13th-century mill, Le Moulin Vert, tucked away in Varen, Occitanie, with its own private lake and pool.
A-Frame houses also took several of the top spots, including the futuristic Unikt Designat Ekologiskt Naturhus in Brålanda, Sweden; the one-room cottage Chalé Lua Nova in Flores da Cunha, Brazil; and a rustic Scenic A-frame Retreat in the California mining town of Grass Valley.
Cozy mountain getaways in some of America’s most iconic locations also made the list, like the Private Mountain Retreat in Blue Ridge, Georgia, with an epic game room; Modern Smoky Mountains Getaway in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, just seven miles from Smoky Mountains National Park; and a Luxury Glass Tiny Home in Warren, Vermont, in the middle of the Green Mountains.

Privacy is key at this upscale Hidden Haven in Cape Town, South Africa, with five bedrooms, three bathrooms, plus an outdoor pizza oven, pool, grill, and garden, all overlooking Hout Bay Beach. Just as isolated is the Taos Skybox Stargazer High Desert Retreat in El Prado, New Mexico, on 30 acres of private land bordering the Taos Pueblo Native lands, as well as the Tally-Ho Tiny Home in Hawson, South Australia, tucked in the Aussie bushlands surrounded by gum trees.
Rounding out the list is a unique family-friendly experience at Zion Kolob Canyon Farm Stay, where guests can interact with the animals like the highland cattle, Nigerian dwarf goats, alpaca, chickens, dogs, and kittens. On top of that, it’s just 10 minutes from Zion National Park’s North Entrance, with day trips to Capitol Reef, Bryce Canyon, Grand Canyon, Arches, and Canyonlands, all within reach as well.
