J.Lo, Eva Mendes, And 12 Other Famous Latina Celebs Who Let Down Their Guard And Got Super Relatable About Motherhood

Mother's Day is just around the corner! In celebration of it, here's what 14 Latina celebrities shared about being a mother — the good, the bad, and the so, so real:

1.Shakira revealed how being a mom has helped her become a more responsible, structured person. She told PopSugar, "It’s helped me be more disciplined overall about sticking to a schedule now because you’re forced to prioritize. Before I was my own boss, but I have two tiny bosses to answer to now."

2.Jessica Alba shared what she learned about dealing with judgmental moms and people who shamed her parenting style. She told Motherly, “If you’re feeling shame in any way with some of your choices because of someone in your life, then remove yourself from that friend group or remove yourself from those conversations because it’s just not helpful. It’s not going to help you be better tomorrow. Move on.”

3.Jennifer Lopez revealed how becoming a mother herself made her realize all the well-intentioned advice she gave her friends about being parents was definitely not the right call — and even inspired her to apologize to some of them.

She told Entertainment Tonight, "You cannot imagine what it’s like to be a mom until you are a mom. I used to give my friends who have kids advice all the time, and they would look at me like I had three heads. And then...the minute I had [my kids], I literally apologized to all my friends."

4.Melissa Fumero got real about how parenting is definitely not a one-style-fits-all type of thing. She explained that she initially assumed she'd be a fairly strict parent, but after having a "difficult" baby, her initial plans quickly changed as she learned to adapt and try new things.

She told Parents, "What I learned is that there are just so many parenting techniques out there. Some work, some don’t. Enzo didn’t really care about me 'describing and honoring his feelings' during a meltdown; he still threw things in my face! Some women have those Earth Mama instincts. I don’t. I have to read every book and try a million experiments to find a solution. You have to do what works for your kid —every family is different."

5.Sofía Vergara shared her pride in being a single mom and — despite the difficulties and things she sacrificed to be a mother at such a young age — that it all feels worth it when people compliment her son now and how well she raised him.

She told People, "I was really young when I divorced his father, so I raised him trying to set the best example and give him the best that I could. When people compliment me on him, on how well mannered, how charming, funny and well-behaved he is, it makes all the sacrifices worthwhile.”

6.Cardi B got candid about the way people judge mothers, expecting them to give up their lives and fit into a perfect, cookie-cutter image of what a mother "should be." She told Vogue, "I could shake my ass, I could be the most ratchet-est person ever, I could get into a fight tomorrow, but I’m still a great mom. All the time I’m thinking about my kid."

She continued, "I’m shaking my ass, but at the same time I’m doing business, I’m on the phone with my business manager saying, 'Make sure that a percentage of my check goes to my kid’s trust.' I give my daughter so much love, and I’m setting her up for a future. I want to tell her that a lot of the shit that I have done in life—no matter what I did, knowing that I wanted to have kids made me go harder to secure a good future for my kids."

7.America Ferrera got real about how overwhelming it can get to be a mom and still find the time to be productive, especially while working from home. She told People, "...If he or she smells me — and they smell me anywhere in the vicinity — then it's just, 'Mommy mommy mommy.' That's all they want, regardless of them having Dad or when we're lucky enough to have someone helping us out."

She continued, "If Mom's anywhere near, they just want me, so it can be difficult when I actually have to do work and get things done...I'll lock myself in my bedroom because it’s the only place I can talk without my daughter hearing my voice and hearing her screaming for not holding her."

8.Zoe Saldaña was honest about how difficult and emotionally taxing it can be to leave her kids behind — for both herself and her kids — especially when she's working. She told People, “I get emotional because it is hard. But the moment that you empathize with them, we become this team of like, ‘You go to school, I go to work. But when we come home, we’re going to be together.'"

She then elaborated on her efforts to flip work from being a negative to a positive in her kids' eyes, saying, "I don’t want [my kids] to feel that work is what takes you away from everything that gives you happiness. Work is part of life. So we never use work as an excuse. We have to work — that’s what everybody has to do. That way we’re creating this sense of duty, like work is part of life and life is part of work.”

9.Christina Aguilera was honest about what a struggle it can be to be a parent and make sure you're taking care of yourself, too. She told Hola, “We’re expected to be pregnant, have the kids, breast-feed once we have the babies. And we’re expected to look amazing after baby, right? Keep our husbands and boyfriends interested, because we’re supposed to get back to sexy and keep things exciting in the bedroom."

She continued, saying "Having children is the ultimate joy, and I love my kids, but women have to find time to nurture themselves. If someone has a baby, the first thing I’m like is, ‘Okay, are you taking care of you?’"

10.Rosario Dawson opened up about how being an adoptive mother is "The best role of [her] life. In an interview with People, she said "It's really powerful that she was old enough to choose me back...I got to meet my daughter, and she met me, and it was really just clear from the get. It's remarkable. We are family."

11.Salma Hayek was honest about how being a mother later in life was absolutely the right move for her and allowed her the chance to pursue opportunities she wouldn't otherwise have been able to. She told The Sunday Times, "I had reached a place in my career [where] I’d done a lot of things, I was so excited to be a mother...I didn’t feel like it would take anything away."

12.Eva Mendes explained why she decided to take a break from acting in order to spend time with her children, citing her memories of growing up with her mom as the catalyst for the decision. She told Today, "I really took it back to when I was little. My mom was able to be there for me at home until I was about eight or nine, and those memories for me, that just formed who I was, those years with her."

13.Dascha Polanko got candid about things she wishes she'd done differently as a young mom, and learning how to be forgiving to her past self for things outside of her control. She told Parents Latina, "Of course, there are certain things I wish I could’ve done differently. I would’ve put my daughter in sports or sent her away to camp. But I was on food stamps, and those things weren’t financially available to me at the time. I constantly have to remind myself to let that go.”

14.And finally, Eva Longoria revealed how being a mother helped her learn to say "no" more often. She told CNN, "I was a late mom. It changes your life completely…because I used to be the center of my universe. And so making all the decisions based on me and my needs, and my wants, was harder now. He’s the center of my universe. And so, it’s very easy to say no to a lot more things."
