13 Movies That Bombed Super Hard...But It Doesn't Even Matter, Because These Celebs Met Their Soulmates On Set

1.We all remember Green Lantern, right? Or, as Reynolds called it, "the darkest crease in the anus of the universe called Green Lantern."

The film barely recouped its $200 million budget and got a 26% on Rotten Tomatoes. It almost singlehandedly ruined Ryan's dream of playing Deadpool — luckily, he was able to turn things around.

However, it provided a way for the lovebirds to meet. Stars Ryan Reynold and Blake Lively met on set, and began dating a few months after its release, and then got married in 2012. They're still going strong as one of Hollywood's It couples, and they have three kids together!

2.Similarly, Adam Brody and Leighton Meester met on the set of The Oranges, an indie film that only made about $300,000 in the US and got a 31% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Brody and Meester began dating a few years later in early 2013, and were married in 2014. They also have two kids together.

3.One of the most iconic couples of the 2000s, J.Lo and Ben Affleck, met on the set of their film Gigli. With a budget of $54 million and a domestic box office gross of around $6 million, Time called it one of the top 10 biggest flops in box office history. The film scored a whopping 6% on Rotten Tomatoes, with critics saying the two "lacked chemistry."

Well, despite the lack of chemistry between the characters, this didn't seem to be a problem with the actors. The two began dating in 2002, and were engaged the same year, before Gigli had even come out. They ended up calling off their engagement in early 2004, just before their second flop film together, Jersey Girl, premiered.

However, their romance was rekindled in 2021, and they're still dating today!

4.You know what also got a 6% on Rotten Tomatoes? The film Dream House, which starred Daniel Craig and Rachel Weisz. It also failed to recoup its budget at the box office by almost $10 million.

However, while the film bombed, Craig and Weisz's relationship — which began on set (though they had met years prior) — bloomed. They married the same year the film released, and had a daughter in 2018.

5.Tori Spelling met current husband Dean McDermott on the Lifetime film Mind Over Murder. The TV movie was rated 3.9/10 stars on IMDb.

Tori would later reveal they slept together the first time they met. The two were married to other people at the time, but soon separated from them, getting married the next year in 2006. Despite some trials and scandals, the two are still together today and have five children.

6.One of 2020's biggest new couples has been Megan Fox and Machine Gun Kelly. They met on the set of this year's film Midnight in the Switchgrass, which was panned upon release and has an 8% on Rotten Tomatoes. The film had a budget of $15 million and only made $229,000 at the box office.

Though they'd actually met briefly before that, they refer to the film as the first time they really met. They soon started dating, and are still going strong today.

7.Fantastic Four and its sequel, which starred Jessica Alba along with a pre-Captain America Chris Evans, didn't get great reviews at the time, and neither are looked back on very fondly in the post-MCU era.

In fact, Jessica Alba famously told of a horrible experience on set that almost made her quit acting, in which she was told to look prettier during her character's death scene. However, it wasn't all bad for Alba — she met her husband, Cash Warren, on set, where he was serving as a director's assistant. They married in 2008, and now have three kids together.

8.The Fantastic Four series was rebooted in 2015 — and fared even worse than its predecessor, garnering only a 9% on Rotten Tomatoes.

However, Kate Mara — who ironically played the same role Alba had in the prior films, Sue — got closer to co-star Jamie Bell (who played The Thing) while on set, who she'd briefly met a decade earlier. They started to fall for each other during the press tour for the film, and got married in 2017.

9.Claire Danes and Hugh Dancy met on the set of their 2007 film Evening, which has a 27% on Rotten Tomatoes. While it had a modest budget, it only made around $20 million at the box office worldwide (which is lower than estimates I've found for its budget).

The two are still married today, and have two children together.

10.Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn first met on the set of the film The One and Only, Genuine, Original Family Band, in which Goldie had a bit part. The Disney musical received mostly bad reviews, which is probably why you've never heard of it.

The two wouldn't start dating until years later, when they both appeared in Swing Shift. They've been together for the almost four decades since (though they aren't married), and have four children together.

11.The Experts is a largely forgotten '80s film starring John Travolta that doesn't even have a critic's score on Rotten Tomatoes — though its audience score is 29%, and its IMDb rating sits at a 4.8/10.

However, this is the film where star John Travolta connected with his wife, Kelly Preston. The two first met at a screen test for the film, and would get married two years after its release. They remained married until Preston's death in 2020.

12.Similarly, the 1994 film Pontiac Moon doesn't have a critic score on Rotten Tomatoes — but it does have an audience score of 43%, and it seems to have made only $10,000 at the box office. The New York Times also gave it a negative review.

However, stars Ted Danson and Mary Steenburgen got to know each other on the set of the film (after briefly meeting in an audition a few years earlier), married in 1995, and are still together today!

13.And finally, this couple isn't still together, but I had to include it...Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner met on major flop Pearl Harbor...

...and then fell in love on an even bigger flop, Daredevil.

The couple got married in 2005, and welcomed three children together, but got divorced in 2018. The two continue to coparent their three children together.
