If you put them into words, the Spring 2020 London collections read like a brilliant love story. All the top-billed shows were wildly romantic. At Burberry, Riccardo Tisci quoted Shakespeare on white lace, while Simone Rocha sent folkloric belles in tulle and china prints down the runway. Erdem Moralioglu told Vogue’s Sarah Mower that his muse this season was the Italian photographer and political activist Tina Modotti, “a romantic and a revolutionary, a woman of principle.” JW Anderson’s crystal bras and crafty, princessly silhouettes brought to mind a modern, provocative love affair, while Richard Quinn introduced his first bridal collection, complete with an adorable choir of little girls wearing pink floral dresses and feather hoods. In London the romance is indeed very far from dead.
It was also very much alive on the streets. Showgoers mimicked the dreaminess of the runways with ruffles, sheer fabrics, big sleeves, and cheery florals. The season may be quickly changing to fall, but there’s no need to put away those enchanting frocks you’ve been wearing all summer. So in the spirit of the romance to come in Spring 2020, here are 13 sweet dresses to fall in love with now.
