Even if you're not actually camping, nothing beats the simple pleasure of just sitting down outside. Fuck adventuring to the far corners of the world. We just want to sit down and watch the day go by. You don't even need a smokeless fire pit nor a portable fire pit. All you need is some real estate outside, maybe some shade, and a good camp chair.
The chair itself can really make or break your outdoor chilling. It needs to be supportive, have good air flow, and be relatively easy to pack. With those criteria in mind, we set out to test and find out what's worth your money. What we found are these 13 best camp chairs. Doesn't matter if you use them in the woods, at the beach, or in the backyard. Just pour up a coffee or crack open a drink and get to chilling.
Low Beach Chair
Per usual, Snow Peak makes the best up-market camp chair. The wood armrests and canvas seat give you a more luxury feel. The aluminum frame is nice and light, and the whole thing packs down into a neat stuff sack. If you want something that will last a little bit longer, this is for you.
Trail Head Camp Chair
Ok yeah $300 for a camp chair is a bit insane. But to be fair, YETI makes the best camp chair of all time. Nothing else comes close. The flexgrid seat is sturdy and comfortable, but it also allows air to flow. The cupholder can handle a good sized cup. Plus, all the hardware is a strong and built to last.
So if you think of it as the perfect camp chair—one you won't have to replace for decades—that $300 investment ain't so bad.
Fireside Side Table Camp Chair
There are, however, less pricey chairs that mimic that YETI chair. This one from Stoic is an incredible buy. It's reasonably comfortable, nice and cool, and it folds down pretty slim. Of course, the main draw is the side table, which can hold a drink and a plate of food or a book. For the price of that YETI chair, you could buy three or four of these and outfit your whole crew.
Stoic XL Pack Chair
We see these little pack chairs everywhere these days, and for good reason. Since they're light and pack down small, you can save a ton of space in your gear box, and you can even bring them along while backpacking.
This Stoic model is a bit larger than most other pack chairs, but that's why we love it so much. It gives you a wider seating area and is more supportive than other brand's offerings. It's great for car camping.
Yizi Go Portable Camping Chair
For a budget pack chair, it's gotta be this Trekology number. It packs down really, really small. But it also has a decent sized seat, and the meshing on the side keeps you cool. It's economical design at its best.
Chair One
For a serious upgrade to the formula, Helinox does it best. This pack chair is sturdier than the others, and with more meshing it keeps you a lot cooler. It's pricey, but it's the best chair out there if you want to cut down on packed weight.
Compact Camp Chair
Wren's camp chair is one of our favorite chairs for all kinds of campers, the experienced and the not. It's roomy and comfortable for sitting and it packs up into something you can store right in your backpack.
Camping Chair
This chair is a cross between those pack chairs and traditional camp chairs. It's smaller, lighter, and sits lower to the ground. But at the same time it has a higher back and padded armrests for lounging.
Freestyle Rocker Chair
Who doesn't love a rocking chair? That little bit of movement makes a world of difference when you're sitting down at the campsite for hours at a time.
Set of 2 Zero Gravity Lounge Chair
Some camping chairs, because of their packability, tend to get saggy when you sit in them. These zero gravity lounge chairs are made specifically to not do that. They have high, supportive backs and put your body in a comfortable, ergonomic position.
Cooler Quad Camping Chair
Coleman's camping chair is a solid choice for most outdoor seating needs. The 24-inch seat is easy to set up or keep stashed in the trunk of your car. Good for camping, outdoor concerts, and sporting events. Plus, there's a cup-holder.
Lowdown Couch
Sometimes you want to seat a group, or you want to lie down for a nap. For that, Kelty makes a lovely little camp couch. The seats are wide, deep, and comfortable.
