When we finally decided to ditch the tapestries and upgrade to an ‘adult apartment,’ our very first stop was West Elm. For years, the brand has debuted modern homeware collections that are fresh, yet timeless, with high-quality pieces that have become staples in our homes. But nowadays, there are tons of other stores like West Elm that effortlessly fuse mid-century silhouettes with trendy textiles and new materials, from Target (yup!) to AllModern. After scouring the web and looking through nearly 50 home stores, we were eventually able to nail down this list of our 12 favorite destinations to shop for West Elm-worthy pieces.

Bottom line: We can’t get enough of the retailer’s boho-luxe take on classic contemporary homewares. So much so that we’re seriously crushing on these 12 other retailers with a similar aesthetic.

How We Chose the Best Stores Like West Elm

When we determined our list of the best stores like West Elm, we considered a few different factors. Mainly, we wanted to make sure their styles in furniture and decor were pretty similar. We also thought about price—since West Elm is on the more expensive side, we wanted to make sure we included retailers that are more affordable, too. Lastly, when narrowing down our favorite options, we read through customer reviews, return policies, shipping options and warranties.

12 Stores like West Elm at a Glance

1. Target

Why is it that every time we go to Target for “a few things,” we always return with a throw blanket, mirror and desk lamp that we didn’t know we needed? We’ll tell you why: The store’s selection is that good. Its home selection includes collaborations from some serious design stars, including Chip and Joanna Gaines’ Magnolia line and Justina Blakeney’s Jungalow collection. And, while Target clearly has a broad range of homewares to shop, West Elm fans are almost guaranteed to find something in Studio McGee’s collection (our personal favorite), which includes contemporary decor, furniture, rugs and art pieces that start at $10.

2. Lulu and Georgia

Lulu and Georgia

Lulu and Georgia is one of the only retailers that fuses West Elm’s contemporary furnishings with artisan decor. Plus, we’re absolutely obsessed with its linen bedding collection and antique brass lighting. When it comes to furniture, the brand has an impressive range of styles that blend trendy materials—like mohair and boucle—with rounded, ‘70s style forms. As far as prices go, you can expect to spend anywhere from $150 to $13,000 for high-quality pieces that will stand the test of time.

3. H&M Home

We cannot even begin to tell you how much we love H&M’s home line. While many people are shocked to find out that the Swedish company also makes homewares, we’ve been snatching up its decor and bedding for quite a while now. Not only do its pieces have the same affordable price points as its apparel, but the designs are minimalist, earthy and elegant—and look way more expensive than their price tags. The retailer’s collection has also recently expanded to include a small line of furniture that consists of coffee tables, shelves and storage benches with a super sleek look.

4. Rejuvenation

In addition to being a sister label to West Elm, Rejuvenation has some of the best mid-century modern and contemporary home selections available. Its furnishings skew more mid-century industrial with lots of metal, leather and walnut wooden pieces, while its decor includes more current patterns, fabrics and finishes. The retailer’s designs tend to stay minimalist, emphasizing form and function. We particularly love that it has a storefront dedicated to accessible furniture, which features pieces that are as inclusive as they are stylish.

5. The Citizenry

The Citizenry

We love that West Elm is shifting toward more handmade, artisan designs that are sourced from around the globe. But why settle for the globally inspired pieces when you could actually shop home essentials from around the world? The Citizenry has a vast array of authentic, handmade home items from various countries, including Peru, Vietnam, India and Morocco. Its pieces are actually artisan-made (not just ‘artisan style’), even being the first home retailer to have all of its products be certified by the World Fair Trade Organization. We love how each piece tells a story while adding a personal touch to your space.

6. Modshop

Modshop is another brand that carries cool, statement-making pieces similar to the ones West Elm is known for. However, as the name suggests, Modshop tends to keep things more modern with curvaceous, sleek and textured designs that utilize unique materials instead of patterned textiles. Most of its items are one-of-a-kind, designer-coveted and insanely chic. However, as you probably guessed, their items are also somewhat pricier, with single dining chairs that start at $495.

7. Anthropologie

Anthropologie has always been considered the boho go-to when it comes to home. However, we’ve recently seen the brand cross over to the contemporary side with pieces that flaunt sleek lines, refined materials and neutral colorways (although they do still have some of the best bohemian home selections on the market). Like the retailer’s clothing options, some home and furniture pieces can be pricier due to a noticeably higher quality construction that—we think— is well worth the investment.

8. Urban Outfitters

Urban Outfitters

If you’re a fan of Anthro’s homewares, you’ve probably checked out Urban Outfitters’ similar, more affordable options. While both companies are owned by the same parent company, Urban has always been more synonymous with “dormy,” hipster-chic style. However, UO has recently upped its game with a slew of simple-yet-elegant pieces that are totally West-Elm-akin. Its latest introductions are anything but juvenile, including timeless artwork and postmodern ceramics, as well as contemporary furnishings with clean, classic lines. Don’t believe us? We think the newest Modern Natural and Deco Dreams collections will convince you otherwise.

9. Burrow

While we know West Elm has diversified its collections, we also know that the brand’s minimalist and modular furniture offerings are here to stay. If you’re looking for the same kind of blended, mid-century furniture pieces, Burrow is a direct-to-consumer company that you should definitely have on your radar. Not only does it have the same look you’re going for, but the company allows you to customize your selections with everything from pet-friendly fabrics to built-in USB ports. We also can’t get over the fact that every single order ships free.

10. AllModern

AllModern is one of our go-to’s for sourcing modern contemporary furniture without spending a fortune. We love its trendy-meets-classic selection, which often mirrors designs from West Elm, CB2 and Pottery Barn. Looking for a handmade Persian rug? The brand’s got you covered. In need of a genuine leather sofa? They’ve got that too. And, while AllModern’s pieces are not as elaborate as some pricier brands’ stock, you can frequently count on the retailer to have killer deals, especially on sleek dining sets, making it the perfect destination for those needing to fill up a new home, stat.

11. Sundays

Founded by four friends back in 2019, Sundays was launched to bridge the gap between high-quality and easily accessible furniture. As a result, the retailer now aims to keep its online shopping experience as relaxed and simple as possible—and really, with beautiful, contemporary pieces like best-selling sideboards and cloud beds (with storage!), how can you go wrong? While some picks teeter on the loftier side, these items are meant to be a long-term investment in your living space, so go ahead and splurge if this is your first “grownup” furniture purchase.

Is West Elm Nicer Than Pottery Barn?

In the classic battle between these iconic furniture spots, it’s tough to tell if one is better than the other. Ultimately, it’ll depend on your style and taste—in general, the pricing is pretty similar (via Home of Cozy), with furniture prices typically landing in the mid-hundreds to thousands. Considering they’ve both been around for years and still obtain elegant descriptors for their collections of high-quality furniture, we’d say they’re pretty equal.

When Does West Elm Have Sales?

Like other home retailers, West Elm does have seasonal sales throughout the year. According to Coupon Follow, you can count on West Elm to have an annual White Sale on bath and bedding items in January, along with sale events surrounding President’s Day, Labor Day, Memorial Day, 4th of July and, of course, Black Friday and Cyber Monday.
