11 Times Saoirse Ronan Proved She’s a Red Carpet Ace
Saoirse Ronan isn’t your typical 24-year-old. She’s been nominated for three Academy Awards, four BAFTAs, and has a Golden Globe (for Lady Bird) to her name. But it was her red carpet circuit in 2018 that solidified her standing as one of Hollywood’s new guard. Having tested varying silhouettes during the 2016 award season (for Brooklyn), Ronan earned her sartorial chops in designs from Burberry, Calvin Klein Collection, and Saint Laurent. But this year, she embraced everything from directional takes on the classic LBD to channeling classic film icons with modern grace and polish.
Working with stylist Elizabeth Saltzman, Ronan created characters and moments with her wardrobe. “Pure, authentic, and honest,” said Saltzman. “That’s who she is.” She toyed with menswear (from Calvin Klein and Michael Kors) in slick takes on tuxedo dressing, brought a cool vibe to 1960s cocktail frocks (by Gucci—“that was just the coolest,” said Saltzman—and Prada), but it was her blush pink, bow-backed Oscars dress that elevated the young actress to fashion icon. “Every time she meets someone in fashion or sees dresses being made specifically for her, I’m turning them inside out, [she gains] more understaning and knowledge of what she actually likes.” And with two major red carpet seasons under her belt, what does Saltzman want Ronan to try next? “She has an authentic relationship with Gucci,” said Saltzman. “I’d like to have a big Gucci moment.”
