The world of Korean entertainment content has only thrived and expanded since it found success in the U.S. mainstream. There's no denying this with the popularity of Academy Award-winning film Parasite, the widespread recognition gained by Academy Award-winning actress Youn Yuh-jung of Minari, and most recently all the buzz generated by hit A24 film Past Lives. Aside from the three films mentioned above, there's an entire treasure trove of excellent Korean movies. Year after year, more K-content is being produced to add to the extensive list—and 2024 is no exception.

This year, there are highly-anticipated projects—starring some of the K-entertainment industry's biggest stars—being released. My Name is Loh Kiwan is about a North Korean defector (Song Joong-ki) who manages to escape to Belgium, where he hopes to settle down and gain refugee status. He struggles to adjust to this foreign country and its culture. Then, he meets a young Korean woman (Choi Sung-eun) who has already obtained Belgian citizenship, but has lost the will to live. They have an unpleasant first encounter, but soon a romance blossoms.

Alienoid 2: Return to the Future

This science fantasy action film is the continuation of the 2022 film Alienoid, so you may want to check that out first by streaming here. The film series follows a pair of Goryeo-era shamans in search of a holy sword, as well as humans in 2022 hunting down an alien prisoner that is locked in a human's body. A time-traveling portal opens up, and the two parties find themselves crossing paths.

This film starring Train to Busan star Ma Dong-seok is set in a post-apocalyptic world. After a major earthquake shakes Seoul, South Korea, the city turns into a wasteland where civil society has totally collapsed. It's up to people like "the hunter" (played by Ma) to try and keep things in order.

Exhuma

This hair-raising mystery-thriller follows the story of a wealthy Los Angeles-based family that experiences a series of paranormal activities. Korean entertainment legend Choi Min-sik also leads the cast, playing an exorcist who unleashes unexpected forces.

Ms. Apocalypse

The year is 1999. Factory bookkeeper Young-mi, cruelly nicknamed “Ms. Apocalypse,” develops a crush on a married man who gets arrested for embezzlement.
