You know the most haunted house in each state, but do you know which state is the most haunted? A recent report by Slotsource.com determined the most haunted states in the country based on reported paranormal sightings, and it includes Texas and California as the top two.

By monitoring the ghostly sightings reported through Ghosts of America, the gaming site determined which states are the most haunted. The top contenders include Texas and California. Both have the highest number of paranormal sightings since 2005 with Texas at 6,845 and California at 6,444. For Texas, that’s around 456 sightings per year. Technically, that means there could have been one, if not more than one, for every day of the year!

Coming in after those top haunted states are Ohio, Michigan, and Illinois. Each of those states has somewhere in the 2,000s for paranormal sightings since 2005. Those states are followed by Indiana, Pennsylvania, Oklahoma, New York, and Virginia–which all have sightings in the 1,000s since 2005.

Based on this report, Midwestern states seem to be the most haunted. Although, Southern and Western states top the list and a few eastern states aren’t far behind. One thing is for sure: There’s no shortage of seemingly haunted places! This year, you can even virtually tour some haunted mansions, ships, prisons, and more from the comfort of your couch. No travel required, and all you'll need is Wi-Fi!
