10 Decadent Beauty Splurges Worthy of Your Tax Return, According to Vogue Editors

Tax Day is upon us—and while the very idea of filing your return may send you into a downward spiral, some will be lucky enough to ultimately find their wallets thicker. So then why not use a windfall to indulge in some much-needed self-care?

Those looking to lift their spirits would do well to seek out a Los Angeles–based homeopath, whose healing flower remedies target everything from stress to heartbreak. Meanwhile, a soothing Ayurvedic massage will reboot body and mind, and a microdermabrasion, laser-toning, and chemical-peeling facial (favored by Angelina Jolie) promises to turn back the clock.

Here, 10 Vogue editor–approved beauty treatments, spa sprees, and next-gen products well worth the splurge. After all, a little wishful thinking never hurt anyone.

A really fancy facial! Something like Dr. Colbert’s Triad Facial. I tried it once, and it literally left my skin glowing like a newborn baby. Sadly, only the kind of thing I would splurge on maybe once in a blue moon.

Alexis Smart designed a line of tinctures that utilize the diverse healing properties of flowers. Each flower remedy restores emotional balance and promotes positivity. I’ve recently started integrating them into my daily routine and can vouch for their powerful healing qualities. Her eight foundational remedies are a great starting point, but I would love to have a personalized session with Alexis to create a customized flower essence!

I recently came across the Instagram account @BorealFolk. They’re a couple, and they live and work out of a 1967 bus that they drive around the Western Canadian wilderness, plucking botanicals straight from the earth and making beautiful skin treatments in the mobile “lab” hitched to the back. My tax-return fantasy is to fund a “radical sabbatical” summer internship with them, and spend a month harvesting wild roses, pineapple weed, balsam fir, whatever. . . Barring that, I’ll do a big order of their Wild Rose Body Butter.

I think 2019 is the year I finally splurge on a Déesse LED Mask, to help fight the good fight of shrinking my ever-enlarging pores when I can’t get to the facialist. I’ve heard the stories about the Korean at-home device for a few years, but when those tales of plumper, clearer, brighter skin come with a recommendation from one of my favorite skin-care gurus, Joanna Czech, prying my credit card out of my wallet is a way more fluid motion.

My skin has been looking particularly rough post–fashion month, so my dream beauty splurge would be a trip to Seoul to have my Korean derm sort me out. Alas, my meager tax return can only get me the next best thing: 50 minutes at Silver Mirror Facial Bar in the Flatiron District for a full Korean-style skin treatment. Think: microdermabrasion, a light peel, and LED light therapy to slough some of that dry skin off and start fresh.

I am addicted to SoJo Spa Club and am always looking for a good excuse to go, like a tax-return celebration, for example. They have crazy infinity pools and waterfalls; it feels like you are at a resort, but really you are on a highway in New Jersey!

With summer approaching, since I know I’ll be spending most days in the office, I’ll need a little reminder of the beach. This Sophie Buhai Abalone Headband feels just luxurious enough to be a special, post-tax-return purchase (crossing my fingers I get a big one!) but is still useful for keeping my always-unbrushed hair out of my face!

I’m ready to splurge on a beauty day at Naturopathica. A Nirvana Stress Relief Massage and a facial? Yes, please.

If I had the extra cash to burn from a tax return, I’d definitely split it between two of my favorite spots. First, I’d book an Ayurvedic massage at Pratima Spa in Soho, the best massage in the city, in my opinion. Second, I’d treat myself to a facial by Sofie Pavitt. She is an under-the-radar bag designer turned skin specialist on Canal Street, with a chic studio and lots of incredible Korean beauty products and tools, as well as a great CBD treatment.

A facial with Rescue Spa’s lead esthetician Diana Yerkes! I love the Biologique Recherche skin-care products they use, and she will work her magic, once you tell her your skin problems.
