These Texas parents were not going to let their one-year-old daughter have a #basic birthday. Instead of the typical "cake smash"-style photos, their little one ate a rack of ribs for her birthday photo shoot and the results are amazing.
Paul Morales and his wife Denise are the masterminds behind these pictures, and it's all the more fitting because Morales is actually a barbecue pit master and owner of Made in Texas BBQ in San Antonio, Texas.
Morales posted the photos on his barbecue's Facebook and Instagram pages with the caption, "A pitmaster's daughter does not simply do a cake smash for her first birthday. Ladies and gentlemen I give you the 'Rib Smash' Happy birthday to my princess Calista!"
His daughter Calista was turning one, and while most kids do a cake smash shoot where they get messy with a birthday cake, but the parents wanted to do something different and a little bit more on brand for them. Morales told Fox News that the family lives by one main mantra, "Keep everything as Texas as possible." When his wife asked if he could whip up two racks of ribs for Calista, he knew exactly where her head was at for the photos.
In the pictures, Calista is wearing a white onesie and a little crown with a number one on it. She sits on a red and white picnic blanket and is surrounded by fun props like some bales of hay, a "BBQ" light up sign, a tin that reads "The butcher. The baker. The BBQ maker," and a couple bottles of her dad's specialty barbecue seasoning rubs.
Of course, right in front of her is a platter of two huge rib racks. covered in barbecue sauce and cut up for her to eat. In the series of pictures, Calista fearlessly digs right in. It's official, I want to be this one-year-old when I grow up.
