Winter Storm Jonas: Sam Champion’s three things you need to know

By Alex Bregman

Sam Champion, managing editor of the Weather Channel and host of the station’s upcoming 23.5 Degrees With Sam Champion, joined Yahoo News and Finance Anchor Bianna Golodryga to give his three things to prepare for Winter Storm Jonas.

First, Champion said, “You have to make sure your home is a safe play to stay. Stock up on those batteries.” He continued, “Do not wait until the last minute to rush to the shelves.”

Second, Champion said, “Do not burn anything inside your home or your garage because now you’ve got a CO2 problem.”

Finally, Champion said, “Most people don’t die in the storm, they kind of die after the storm. That’s dying on icy roads, dying because of complications from shoveling snow or heart attacks, dying because you’ve had prolonged exposure to cold air and cold temperatures. So make sure you and your family have food, water, cash and your medication supply for at least three days, because especially in rural areas, you could be without power for that long.”

Champion told Golodryga where Jonas will be hitting the hardest and the role of climate change in the storm.
