Nancy Pelosi: 'Russians were involved' in hacking DNC email

Rep. Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., the House Democratic leader, told Yahoo News Global Anchor Katie Couric that “it is a fact that the Russians were involved” in hacking DNC email accounts.

Pelosi said she did not know whether they carried out the hacking operation to help Republican nominee Donald Trump,. “I think they just hacked because they hack all the time,” Pelosi said. She added that it was wrong for the DNC to act against Bernie Sanders’ candidacy and right for Debbie Wasserman Schultz, the party chair, to step down. Pelosi said that “whatever the difference is” between Sanders and Hillary Clinton, “it is small compared to the chasm” between Clinton and Trump.

Pelosi said that working-class Trump supporters have been “voting against their interest for a while” and, despite that, expressed confidence that Hillary Clinton will win. Pelosi said that Clinton is better prepared to become president than either President Obama or President Bill Clinton were when they were elected.

Despite the tumult on the floor today, Pelosi said she doubted that Clinton would be booed when she accepts the nomination on Thursday night.
