Texas delegates speak out about Cruz’s decision not to endorse Trump

CLEVELAND — A day after Sen. Ted Cruz was booed off stage at the Republican National Convention for not endorsing Donald Trump, Yahoo News’s Summer Delaney spoke with Texas delegates about Cruz’s decision and its impact on the delegation of his home state.

Cruz spoke during the RNC’s Wednesday primetime lineup, and while he congratulated Donald Trump on securing the Republican presidential nomination Tuesday, he did not endorse Trump. His speech was met initially with applause, but as it drew to a close, the crowd began to boo the senator. Cruz’s wife, Heidi, was escorted out of the arena because of concerns about her safety.

Some of the delegates Yahoo News spoke to were Cruz delegates, whose reactions to his speech were mixed. They had all attended a Texas GOP delegation breakfast Thursday morning in which Cruz spoke with delegates and his constituents in a 25-minute conversation defending his decision.
