2015 in review

By Kaye Foley

As we celebrate the start of a new year and new opportunities, here’s a look back at all the news, trends and biggest moments of 2015.

The news that topped front pages and dominated airwaves included a historic Supreme Court ruling that legalized same-sex marriage nationally, Pope Francis’ trip to the United States, the refugee crisis in Europe as well as numerous instances of terrorism and mass shootings.

In the political world, the 2016 race to the White House heated up, with Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump closing out the year in the lead for their respective parties.

The biggest sports victories, like the U.S. Women’s National Team winning the World Cup in soccer and Serena Williams’ triumph at Wimbledon, brought home some national pride.

In pop culture, it was a year of hellos and goodbyes. The world was introduced to Caitlyn Jenner and said “hello again” to Adele. Late-night legends David Letterman and Jon Stewart signed off and passed their respective batons.

Viral moments and trends that took up our time and our Twitter feeds included viral phenomenon The Dress, pizza rat, dad bods and adult coloring books.

We’ll have to wait and see what 2016 has in store for us. (Perhaps a love for “mom bods”?) But as you listen to “Auld Lang Syne” and make toasts to the New Year, when it comes to 2015, at least you can say, “Now I get it.”
