If the juggernaut of last-minute calling, ordering and paying sounds overwhelming (which it does), then give in and DIY. A homemade arrangement is not only cheaper, but it's incredibly easy to make (you literally don't even need a vase). And your Valentine will thank you for your handmade expression of love.

Step 1

To complete this craft, you'll need: a bouquet of flowers from the grocery store that are within the same color family (we opted for pinks and reds), a tape measure, pair of scissors, a knife or garden shears, tape, a coffee can (or another canister), decorative paper (we went with book cloth for one canister) and optional embellishments.

First, empty your canister and rinse it out well with water. Then, peel away the label. It's okay if it's not completely clean as it will be covered up.

Simply wrap the paper around your canister. You can use glue or tape as an adhesive. Add your embellishments if you wish. We went with little wooden and metal hearts we found at our local craft store.

Using a knife or garden shears, cut the the stem at the desired length at a 45 degree angle. It's important you cut at least one inch off and avoid using household scissors, as they can break the stem.

Finally, place your flowers into the canister. We like to group flowers by hue for a more sophisticated arrangement, but you can arrange them however you like.
