What's The 'One Thing' Rick Perry Regrets About His Campaign?

Through all of the trials and tribulations Texas Gov. Rick Perry has encountered in his run for the 2012 Republican presidential nomination, there is only "one thing" he would have changed.

No, not his confusion surrounding the "country" of Solynda (it's a company), or his now-infamous "Oops" moment, but the date of his back surgery.

Perry appeared Wednesday on "The Sean Hannity Show," and, when asked if he thought he should have "gotten his feet wet" first before participating in the debates, Perry had this to say:

If there was one thing I would have changed in my campaign, I would have moved that surgery I had the first of July back to the first of January. I didn't realize it was going to have as big an impact -- frankly, I didn't even know it was having the impact it was having on me from the standpoint of just being fatigued. It showed up in the first few debates, but I'm knocking out anywhere between 15 and 20 miles a week running now. I've never felt better. I think you saw a glimpse of what you can expect out of me going forward from that last debate you saw in Iowa.

Perry first suggested that his back surgery was to blame for his lackluster debate performances in an interview aired Sunday night on Iowa Public Television, saying:

"I think part of the reason you've seen a somewhat different candidate on the debates is that my health is, really both physically and mentally, just really back in the game from the standpoint you have a fusion on your back and it takes you a while to get back on your game," Perry said. "I would suggest to you I was pretty fatigued. But no excuses, it was there, it's what it is and, look, if anybody's looking for a perfect candidate I'm not it."

Perry underwent back surgery roughly two months prior to his first presidential debate.
