Macy's Black Friday 2020: The Best Deals We've Seen So Far

If you’ve been having a hard time clearing out your inbox lately, you’re not alone — it seems like everyone (and we mean everyone) is offering some sort of early Black Friday sale right now.

One of the places we’re eyeing for Black Friday deals is Macy’s, which has traditionally had tons of price drops on everything from home items (this rose gold Cuisinart cookware set was a big hit in 2019) to fashion (one of our editors found mock croc boots on sale there last year, too).

This year is no exception. Macy’s will be offering different deals throughout the month that you don’t want to miss out on. Case in point: We’ve already spotted lots of cookware on sale at Macy’s to gobble up ahead of Thanksgiving.

You can save even before the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade starts (it will be television-only this time around): For a limited time, you can get an extra 20% off select clearance at Macy’s with code BLKFRI.

Keep in mind that some of Macy’s Black Friday deals are live until Nov. 28 and others are live beyond Black Friday weekend.

Our advice for finding the best deals this Black Friday? It’s best to get ahead of the Black Friday madness and last-minute shipping deadlines. Plan ahead to shop and save to avoid seeing “sold out” or “out of stock” on something that you really wanted.

Fortunately, retailers are helping you shop early this year, too. Instead of saving their sales until the end of November, retailers are dropping them much, much earlier than Nov. 27.

If that seems too good to be true, trust us, it’s actually happening right now. Nordstrom has been adding more and more markdowns to its sale section. Walmart is having three Black Friday sales. And we’re trying to keep up with all the deals dropping at Target.

While Black Friday 2020 won’t exactly be like ones in the past, one thing’s for sure: The deals are still just as good as ever. To make things easier, we looked through Macy’s Black Friday deals and picked out some of the best markdowns below you don’t want to miss out on.

A few of the best deals you’ll find down below include this KitchenAid stand mixer that’s more than 40% off, a Samsonite spinner suitcase that was $340 and is now $102 and a Martha Stewart Dutch oven that’s just $50 (originally $160) at the moment.

    If anyone could get away with poetic licence, it was John Keats. When he composed his Ode to a Nightingale, one of the most-loved poems in English literature, the poetic genius got his birds confused and he was actually writing an Ode to a Thrush, according to the latest research. In the forthcoming volume of the Keats-Shelley Review, Dr Judith Chernaik publishes a study under the sub-heading: “Was Keats’s Nightingale really a Thrush?” Presenting what she describes as “unassailable evidence”, she is challenging the recollection of Keats’s friend Charles Brown that inspiration came to the poet in the spring of 1819, when a nightingale had built her nest at Wentworth Place, his home in Hampstead, north-west London, now Keats House Museum. Years later, Brown wrote: “Keats felt a tranquil and continual joy in her song; and one morning he took his chair from the breakfast table to the grass plot under a plum tree, where he sat for two or three hours. "When he came into the house, I perceived he had some scraps of paper in his hand… Those scraps… contained his poetic feeling on the song of our nightingale…This was his Ode to a Nightingale.” Dr Chernaik told the Telegraph that the account has been repeated in the biographies, yet the evidence shows that “all of that is invented”. She argues: “It is strange to think of Keats composing his poem in the morning, when the ode presents itself so convincingly as a night piece… “What is surely questionable is the claim that the ode was inspired by the song of a nightingale nesting near the house. Nightingales are famously secretive, nesting by preference in woodland undergrowth. They do not nest near houses. Nor is it the nesting female who sings. In the ode, Keats imagines the nightingale singing ‘In some melodious plot’… “As in all his greatest poetry, Keats seamlessly combines intense personal feelings, literary inspiration and realistic observation…. Keats addresses the nightingale as a ‘light-winged Dryad of the trees’ - hence female… But it does not take a professional ornithologist to know that it is the male nightingale, not the female, who sings.”

Her sisters fear she was targeted because of her activism and flew to Mexico 10 days ago to search for her. But they described a climate of fear in the town where she disappeared and most of what they know so far is thanks to Liz’s husband Chris Roast back in Sheffield, who is combing videos on social media. “People saw it and nobody did anything. People are so scared,” Sara, a 46-year-old architect from Salford, told the Telegraph. Claudia’s case has been taken up by the sisters’ local MPs, Rebecca Long-Bailey and Olivia Blake, who wrote to Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab last week asking him to pressure the Mexican government. The family is also hoping for help from the British police. According to Mexican law, families can request outside assistance for investigations. The impromptu protest from which Claudia disappeared in the small town of Asunción de Nochixtlán was sparked by the arrest of a local man who went to the council to claim money he was owed. Liz, 49, a computer science lecturer at Sheffield Hallam University, said her sister “is seen on video and tape [at the protest]. You can hear her voice, the last thing you can hear is her calming people down, saying let’s come back and do this legally.” Claudia moved to Asunción de Nochixtlán nine years ago to care for her mother and became involved in campaigns for land and Indigenous rights. “She was forceful when something was wrong, she always defended someone from a bully. She [has] a strong sense of justice,” said Liz. According to a human rights watchdog in Oaxaca state, more than 85,000 people have been reported missing in Mexico since 2006. “Abductions are used as a way of silencing and intimidating people. And we’ve seen it works. Nobody wants to say anything,” said Liz. “In Mexico, it’s usually the family that finds the missing person. We can’t stop. The desert facility is the centrepiece of Iran's uranium enrichment programme and is monitored by inspectors of the International Atomic Energy Agency, the U.N. nuclear watchdog. Tehran denies seeking to build a nuclear bomb. "While condemning this despicable move, Iran emphasizes the need for the international community and the International Atomic Energy Agency to deal with this nuclear terrorism," Salehi said. In July last year, a fire broke out at the Natanz facility, which the government said was an attempt to sabotage the country's nuclear programme. In 2010, the Stuxnet computer virus, widely believed to have been developed by the United States and Israel, was discovered after it was used to attack Natanz. The latest incident comes amid efforts by Tehran and Washington to revive the 2015 nuclear deal after former U.S. President Donald Trump abandoned it three years ago and reimposed sanctions. Iran has gradually breached many restrictions imposed by the accord since then. The two nations laid out tough stances at indirect talks in Vienna last week on how to bring both back into full compliance with the deal. "The action taken against the Natanz site shows the failure of the opposition to Iran's industrial and political progress to prevent the significant development of Iran's nuclear industry," Salehi said. "To thwart the goals of those who commanded this terrorist act... Iran will continue to improve its nuclear technology on the one hand and to lift oppressive U.S. sanctions on the other hand," he said.

"I'm left in the situation that my wife might still try to claim millions of pounds off me, soley owing to the fact that we were married when, arguably, she married me under false pretences as I believed she was in her thirties, not in her forties in 1994, almost past child-bearing.” Mr Villiers went on to state that his wife did not wish to celebrate milestone birthdays, which he found "bizarre", before adding: "If it was a genuine error made in the creation of a marriage certificate document, not one word of explanation has ever been offered to me by Emma in 27 years." An electoral role registers Mrs Villiers as being born in 1958, which would make her current age 62, and 35 when they married.

  • Army engineers began preparing Prince Philip’s Land Rover hearse after hospital stay

    Army engineers worked around the clock to make sure the Duke of Edinburgh’s specially-designed Land Rover hearse was ready in time for his funeral. A team from the Corps of the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (REME) was deployed to prepare the hearse after the Duke was admitted to hospital in February. His month-long stay at the age of 99 was the longest period Prince Philip had spent in a hospital. Details about the hearse are a closely-guarded secret but sources have suggested the converted Land Rover has an open-top design. It is also understood to be from the Land Rover Defender series. Two vehicles were commissioned from Land Rover and converted for “belt and braces” purposes but only one will be used at the funeral on Saturday. Sources have suggested one vehicle is green and the other black and it is unclear which will be deployed. The Corps of engineers, formed in 1942, is responsible “for maintaining and repairing the Army’s equipment”.
