The magic continues on in elderly age, a new study reveals.

Researchers from the University of Manchester and NatCen Social Research found that more than half of men and nearly a third of women over age 70 are still sexually active. The findings are based on data from more than 7,000 people ages 50 and older who were part of the English Longitudinal Study of Ageing.

And among those who are sexually active and in their 70s or older, one-third have sex at least twice a month.

"We hope our findings improve public health by countering stereotypes and misconceptions about late-life sexuality, and offer older people a reference against which they may relate their own experiences and expectations,” study researcher David Lee, an Age UK Research Fellow at The University of Manchester’s School of Social Sciences, said in a statement.

Nearly one-third of men and one-fifth of women in their 70s and 80s also frequently kiss or pet their partners, the researchers found.

The study is published in the journal Archives of Sexual Behavior. It also reveals the common sexual problems faced by people in the study, such as:

- Difficulty becoming sexually aroused (experienced by 32 percent of women).
- Difficulty achieving orgasm (experienced by 27 percent of women).
- Erectile difficulties (experienced by 39 precent of men).
- Sexual dissatisfaction and worry (experienced more by men than by women).
