Women Are Sticking Weed Up Their Vaginas to Relieve PMS Pain

Can a hoo-hah get high? (Photo: Shutterstock)

We’d be pretty hard-pressed to choose our least favorite part of having our period. But as delightful as stained underwear, hormonal acne, and gaining five pounds of pure water weight may be, brutal PMS cramps take the cake for many women.

When Midol, hot water bottles, tea, and the fetal position fail, your uterus’ next best bet of relief might be… weed?

Like, literally putting weed in your vagina.

Foria Relief is a tampon-like product that contains organic cocoa butter, THC oil, and CBD (another active ingredient in marijuana). These cannabinoids help with pain relief and prompt muscle relaxation—without any foggy-headedness or sudden interest in eating an entire buffalo chicken pizza. According to Foria, “Users have reported a significant decrease in the pain and discomfort often associated with menstruation.”

These little cramp-relievers are currently only available in California and Colorado (where pot has been legalized), and before you up and move to one of these states for the sake of your period pain—well, don’t.

“I have two questions I ask before recommending a product to patients: Is it safe? And, does it work?” says Lauren Streicher, M.D., associate clinical professor of obstetrics and gynecology at Northwestern University and author of Sex Rx. “There simply aren’t any studies that show this product does what it claims to do.” And given that, Streicher would not advise anyone put marijuana in their vaginas.

There ya have it, folks. The best thing you can do for period pain relief is to take that ibuprofen before your cramps are killing you, says Streicher. And if you’re still in agony, it’s time to see your doc—not get your hoo-ha high.
